Hello from sunny Florida. I have been lurking for months, getting design ideas. I’ve settled on my design and stated my build. Like many, when the Covid shut everything down, I started spending more time online dreaming about what I could do once quarantine was over. “I should build a camper” was the winning idea.
I am a Civil War reenactor and as I get older, having more camping comfort is a increasing necessity. So a camper will provide that extra level of comfort. After the sticker shock from looking at new ready-build campers, I decided to build one. I have viewed thousands of images, hundreds of videos and read through countless forum posts on this platform and others.
I’ve owned two camper trailers in my life. Back in the early 80s I had a early 1970s Shasta (I believe it was a Shasta). And in the early 2000s, an aluminum Friendship Vacationaire with a drop floor.
I am a dreamer with big ideas, zero welding skills, some woodworking skills, decent tinkering skills, and zero patience. It has been an interesting challenge to tame my design ideas to fit my building abilities. My camper is a unique blend of many ideas but I looked to the past for the most inspiration. The two campers that influenced the design the most are the 1913 Earl and the 1949 Wee Zim. The build is under way, I’ll add a build post as it progresses.
