New owner of 2020 5x8' OK Schooner

Postby boots » Thu Jul 11, 2024 1:24 pm

I am new on the Teardrop forum. I am purchasing a used 2020 5x8' OK Schooner. I noticed the back hatch is sticking and it appears to slide from side to side a bit. We have had to tap it back into place(centered) but I am not sure why it keeps slipping from side to side.

I have tried contacting OK Schooners several times by phone and email with no response from them.

I am wondering if anyone has had this issue and if so how did you fix it?

Thanks a bunch!

I haven't had the problem, but some folks cut a slot in the hatch side of the hinge and then set a screw into the slot from the top.

Thanks for the suggestions. We were thinking of replacing the hinge with a type of "piano hinge" so that it wouldn't slide. Tony your suggestions sounds much easier!

Cheers!

boots,

I have this issue with my homebuilt camper. No, don't replace with a piano hinge; those aren't water-shedding as the hurricane hinges are. Better is to check/look at the ends of the hinge sections occasionally - they should be even. If not, raise the hatch and bump the side of the hatch where the hinge is hanging over too much until the hinge sections align. Cutting a slot in the hinge might lead to leaking, IMHO. Just look closer at the hinge's construction and you'll see what I mean. The hurricane hinge is designed to slide like that to "put the hatch on the trailer." Mine "moves" after bouncing down bumpy roads.
