Hey.

Thought I would give a quick intro and say hello.

I'm right into FPV (First Person View flying) and fossicking. Two interests that generally compliment each other and for the most part are improved by some form of getaway. Accommodation has become crazy expensive and while I'm still content to sleep in a swag down by the river - I just couldn't be bothered with setting-up or packing away these days especially in rain and wind and with a car overflowing with camping supplies. Just too old and impatient for that now.... It has been a few months since I decided to build a Square Drop and can't remember now what the initial catalyst was, but I reckon since then I've watched every camper related Youtube video (twice). Should be interesting considering the only skill I possess are some amateur DC related electrical.

The wife doesn't share much interest in any of my stuff (drones & rocks), so I'm leaning towards a 8x5 build with only a Double as I will be a loner on most trips. I do have a thing for the Australian outback which is about 10 hours away and while my car won't 4WD, I never stick to highways and so will run a set of Timbrens to help with the unsealed outback roads. I'll probably keep it simple with the only real criteria being a grunty power system in order to support my FPV hobby and to make coffee. Initially I'll probably get it "sleepable" and leave the kitchen as mostly storage. I can live a week on coffee and chocolate bars and once I use it a few times I'll think more about the kitchen I want to add/build. I've certainly got some idea's kicking around but my priority at the moment it to finish my trailer drawings and get it built (by a trailer builder). Ultimately I want a finished project that comes in under 900kg but i do have stacks of wiggle room as my car is rated to tow 1500kg (late model Hybrid RAV4).

I might choose to vlog the build experience as I like playing with cameras and editing and Youtube etc. Here is a video of that FPV thing I did in a cool place roughly this time last year. Cheers.

Welcome Bones. I’m in Tennessee in the southern part of the United States near the Mississippi river. That’s one fast flying machine you’ve got!
There are some cool accessories you can get for campers in Australia that we can’t get here. At Drifta. https://www.drifta.com.au/. It’s mostly for four-wheel-drive and camping kitchen equipment -but you might as well know about it since you’re over there.

If you don’t want to spend a long time building it, look up posts about the “weekender” in this forum. Simple and fast.

There are some websites with plans like wandertears.com. Also I definitely recommend ordering Tony Latham’s book on building a teardrop trailer.
