Minimum bathroom closet size

Postby Doublacola » Mon Aug 25, 2014 7:35 pm

I was wondering what the minimum bathroom size should be just for a toilet closet? I'm about to finish mine and the base is 24"x36" and it sure looks small. Any Idea before we finish?

I live in a 30' 5th. wheel the size of my WC (throne room), is 36.5" X 27" . I'm 6'1" tall and weigh 215, snug but not claustrophobic ...
That help???

My plans call for a 24" x 32" shower pan size. I might consider 24" x 36" if the space allows when I start my 6 x 14 CT. I also plan on having the porta potty in there to with be worked around while showering or just simply removed during the showering. I was going to consider a 24x24 one, but I quickly got over that idea.

I tested that in my shower at home. I measured off the 24 inches and that imagined I had to stay within that width as I showered. I think, no I am sure I can.

But I think it is more important to know what you can afford to put in the trailer space wise.

Bluntly put, at a 24" width, the only problem that I foresee is that you may have to stand up to do a good cleaning with your toilet paper because your elbows may hit the sides. When you stand up, your elbows don't have to bend out as far to reach behind. This assumes that you are not extremely obese. I am not skinny; yet, I do okay with a roughly 20" wide space. I wouldn't go any smaller than that width. A typical potty space width in a house, I think, is 36 to 40".

Good point Sharon.
In my case, the inside potty will be mainly for my wife at night. All other bathroom duties will be via using a "shower/potty" tepee ( mine from Cabellas) with the baggie/trash bag and kitty litter ( or something similar) approach if a clean restroom is not available. So for us, the width can be as little as 24". But not all campers might be in our shape either and will need more room.

Sharon, you have me thinking about that width again. So before I commit myself to that size, I think that in addition to using the blue tape layout on the floor, I will build a cardboard mock-up in my CT when it arrives and test these issues out.

I asked this on another forum, and then found a shower/toilet combo pan manufacturer site. The smallest size has a width of 21" and they go up from there. If you are not too wide in the hips  23" would probably work.

Campers are for sleeping in, almost everything else should happen outside.

My thinking is that this is the most important "room" in a camper. Mine is 3' x 6' - full size house shower, portable toilet, home-made sink, and mirrored cabinet. I say use the space if it's there.

Thanks, but ouch the prices are sure up there aren't they? After I make the mock-up shower, if I do not like any shower bases that are available for under $100 (for example: http://www.jazzsales.com/index.php?rout ... ath=46_247), I think I might look into making my own as some other posters have done.

Bob,

Take a look at this post: http://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?p=1067912#p1067912 . Jerry's bathroom area is 23.5" x 39". It has a step for the porta-potty and a separate well for the shower area. Although compact, and looks quite roomy.

The shower pan was not purchased. Jerry built it himself.

With this design, you can leave the porta-potty in place and not have to wrestle it in and out every day.

Take care,
Tom

Thanks Tom,

This is the post I was referring to. I am actually thinking of trying this if I cannot get a "ready made" unit.
Jerry did a great job with this project.

Thanks again for locating it for me. I will save the link for my future reference.

you are right about this being the most important room particularly for my wife. I think i'm going to widen width to 30". Will try to post a picture when finished. Thanks
