rv door install

Postby nevits » Fri Apr 18, 2014 9:20 pm

Has anybody installed a RV door on a enclosed trailer?
I'm looking at a used aluminum Triton with no side walk through door and I would hate to let this deal slip by.

Try a forum search, there have been a few that have done what you are thinking of and showed how
they went about it.

I know that several have done it. Especially with some of the 5X8 models. Seemed like it was a pretty straight forward install. Open the wall. Frame in the area. etc

Hopefully someone who has done one will chime in. I am not sure how you would word that search not to end up with a thousand hits.

Here is one side door thread

nevits, Howdy;

Sorry, I forgot to welcome you in my first post ... so
WELCOME !!! :D

I used the search box at the top of the page, in the Header, typed in
CT Side Doors and found a plethora of responses.

Hope you find what you need in there.

PS.Sorry about the poor link. I eliminated the it as it was re-routing back to this thread.

BTW, nevits, welcome to Tnttt.

If I remember right some people made their side doors, some bought new, and some also got a used one. If it was me, I would look into a used one and just frame for it and the hinges.

Not an RV door, but it was a cargo door which some are framed the same. I made a template to locate the door, removed the panel inside where the door was going, put the tape down so I wouldn't scratch the paint while cutting with the Sawsall. cut it out, framed the opening with oak to back up the door frame, popped the door in, finished the inside panel. About 2 hours work. I ordered this door with an RV door latch, it opens from the inside and has a deadbolt. You can't be locked in.
