Insulating the doors

I have put off doing this, and maybe I never will, but I am considering taking my side door off to add bracing for latch and insulating it. Quadriderdad opened his, and they were solid plywood inside. Has anyone else opened theirs with either good or bad results. Also did you have any difficulties in getting them apart etc?? Wondering how much I do or don't need to do this. Insulating the floor made a huge difference in my ct's temps, will doing the doors make that much also? I guess that may depend on what is inside...

Well to answer some of my own questions, I had a duh moment and called the factory. This is what Mirage said on the building of their doors:

The doors aren't solid. They use an interior frame cut from 3/4 inch plywood. There is about 6 to 8 inches all the way around the edges and either one or two crossbraces of the the same. The wider doors will have the two crossbraces. The only difference between the build of their "rv door" and the ct doors is that they do put insulation inside the rv doors.

Sounds like I won't need to add bracing for the latches, but I should probably open it and insulate it.

The colder its outside the better it works

That is a very important note!! The standard stuff has amazing power when it expands!

I drilled numerous holes on the inside so I could work my way up in layers.

My main build thread is listed on the bottom of my posts. It isn't completely up to date as I have added a little more insulation to the ceiling and then put on the ceiling panels. I have also got most of the flashing up on the curves of the roof edges, and a number of other small projects going. So it is getting finished, just not super fast. I will probably wait until I put the finish molding on before I post pictures of the ceiling and finish work. It will look a lot more finished then.

Thanks - looks like my Alzheimer's is really working overtime

I just noticed a little rust on your frame and was wondering all that time your
were under installing some foam - did you spray on some rust protection ?
I sprayed about 10 cans under mine and so far so good.
I put my foam over my plywood inside as I figure and I age I'll hunch over anyway
But here it seams it's against "main stream" to do it on the inside and loose an inch.
