Selling a CT Conversion

I am really thinking hard of stepping up from a 6x10 CT to a new 7x16 CT of which I posted some pics of awhile back and start the conversion process all over again. This would mean that my existing 6x10 CT would be put up for sale.

I could sell as is with the bed and cabinets in it and hope that a prospective buyer likes the layout.

Or I could strip out the bed and cabinets and sell as an empty CT for those who would like to convert to their needs or maybe use it for work, to haul a motorcycle etc. I have plenty of pics of the insulation, electrical work etc which I think would help in the resale. Also with the CT having a factory window, RV door with window, electric brakes etc would also add some curb appeal. Not looking to make money on this and I would be content with a very fair and reasonable sale price to the right person.

For those who have perhaps sold their CT's which route have you taken and what was the feedback from prospective buyers? And if you had to resell again again, would you keep as is converted or strip out the trailer before selling?

Recently saw two 6x12 conversions on Phoenix Craigslist. Both looked nicely done and both were priced at $5,000. One sold quickly and the other took a few weeks. There are lot's of CT's to compete with on CL, but not many conversions.

On the other hand for every thousand people looking to purchase a cargo trailer there's probably 3 that are even aware people convert them.

I'd say if it's a proffesional looking conversion to try selling it as such, you can always strip it if it doesn't move. If it looks home-made I'd strip it out.

I'd agree with Chilly, there are factory-built small travel trailers on CL for a very reasonable price, and they have many more features. So if it looks even slightly hokey to the buyer (beauty is in the eye of the beholder!), you might as well strip it and keep what you can reuse.

My trailer converts back to a cargo trailer pretty easily, so if I ever decide to move on, I can always keep it for hauling.

As I will be ordering a custom Tailwind trailer from the factory which has a 8-10 week order/delivery time, I am going to wait and use my current CT over the summer. Come fall, I will sell my current CT then order the new one and have a winter project to tackle.

That's what I'd do if I were converting a replacement trailer. For all the cost of the accessories and the time and work of your installations I'll bet the buyer won't give much more money if any, than the bare cargo trailer would have brought you!
And that'll be because there are so many pre-built toy haulers out there with all the stuff already in there.
