Any Experience with Diamond Trailers? What to look out for?

Postby thesigshooter » Wed Jul 30, 2014 7:13 pm

I've seen a couple of these built out on this forum. I'm getting prepared for my Cargo Trailer Conversion and I need some guidance on a decent trailer. I'm looking for something that is 7x16 or 7x18, either of those plus a 2' v-nose. I am considering a Diamond trailer with a few upgrades and I just wanted to see if you guys have any experience with these? Are they decently built trailers? What do I need to watch out for on these? I have been lurking on this site for a couple of weeks now and I really appreciate all the good information I've gotten so far...thanks in advance for your help with this!

My conversion is a Diamond 7x14 tandem. Mine came with the RV style door. I gutted it and started from scratch from there. Since I have owned it, I have had zero problems with it. There are a few things I didn't like and changed myself. They used clip on wire nuts that cut into the wire and could cause a problem down the line so I replaced the ones I could and taped the ones I couldn't. Wish I had just rewired the whole thing when I had it gutted just for piece of mind. I also painted the (Galvalum) roof with white RV roof sealer for added waterproofing and it also helps stop the black streaks caused by the galvalum. Over all, I am very pleased with the trailer build.

I have a Diamond also and would suggest having them insulate it for you.
My rafters were not square and it made the job difficult for me. Other than that I'm happy with their product.

I got a Diamond Cargo 7x16 a few months ago - still working on the conversion. The trailer is fine and you can configure several options if buying new. If I knew then what I know now, I would have gotten the white lined metal inside with ATP floor and let them insulate the walls and ceiling. The plywood is put on with an air-hammered nail and is pretty much impossible to take off without damaging the interior plywood and trim. My advice is to have them put any options you're going to want on the trailer - you will have plenty to work on from that point forward. :)
