Insurance for Conversions ???

Howdy All;

Just got off the phone with one of the talking voices from my Insurance Co. (Flo).
Was told that for any utility type trailer (includes Enclosed), they only cover it for $500.00
if it's hooked to your tow vehicle. Hummmmmmmmmmm ...
What and how do ya'll get yours covered for the amount you need for yours ???

Now that is disturbing. I think I will visit my insurance guy and see what I can find out.

Attached to the TV the TV insurance covers you for only liability to others.

As soon as the insurance company discovers it is fitted with a bed or shower, cookstove, etc., they call it an RV and charge additional premiums.

... and of course that can all vary from company to company.

Our old travel trailer was about $30 a month. I plan on telling USAA it's a 12' travel trailer and I will place a value on it.

I just refused to buy any for our build after struggling with a couple of
agencys. I was told at dmv its actually not required as the TV liability
covers things.

At the last agency(state farm) I was told they would only cover the
cost of the HF Trailer and parts in insurance. 3500$ covered and cost was
quoted verbally as ~65$! If and only if I changed over at least one other
policy to their agency.

I have a 2014 8.5 x 20, called my insurance company (Safeco) and told them it was valued at 7000. These are very common trailers here on the Oregon Coast for ATV riders heading for the dunes. Full coverage $20.00 a month. I often see used trailers selling for more than new costs That is just crazy, people impulse buy them before doing any homework on costs.

I use Farm Bureau. My insurance is about $25 for 6 months, but they know the conversion is not yet complete. When I finish the conversion, we will assign it a new value and probably higher rate.

I only have mine insured as a cargo trailer thru State Farm, but it's about $100/yr I think. If I roll it, I'll get the $3000 I need to buy a new CT, and I'll salvage what I can and start over. Or not.

It certainly isn't worth the extra money to have it insured as an RV.
