Trip to Nashville

Went to Montgomery Bell State Park last weekend for our CMA state rally. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures! The park is beautiful but it was hot. The camper (7x12 v- nose converted cargo trailer you van see in my build post) did really well except for a few upcoming modifications. The cots aren't my idea of comfortable, so I will be building a couple of Murphy beds this winter. It was also pretty hot (98 degrees), so we went out and bought a portable A/C and a 4" hole saw from Lowes. It did a good job cooling the trailer, but broke on the third night, so I have a replacement ordered from Walmart in a different brand. Third, we had rain most of one day, so I am planning on an awning to cook under. It will be a relatively simple awning using a tarp, some strap loops, carabiners, and extension paint poles.

Congrats on the new trailer. Part of camping is figuring out just the right mix of goodies. Sounds like you have it figured out and the next trip will be simpler.

That similar to what all of us do after each trip....add, change, modify!

You might look at getting some "C" rail for awnings. A tarp end bent over a 1/4" rope or rod will slide into it easily.

Use the google search above and just put in
c rail awning
and you will get about 200 examples to thumb through.

Cindy, I tried to talk my wife into the c channel, but she wants to go the other route. Fortunately, after she decides we should change out and get the c channel I can use the tie down loops for something else.

Welcome and glad to hear you are getting out and enjoying trailering

I fought with myself on an awning as well ... coming from southern Arizona, the sun and heat were the killers when camping and an outside shade was really a necessity

I was going to go with the rope & Pole, a simple awning that slides into a C-Rail and the outboard ends were attached to poles staked to the ground ... BUT, my 6x10 CT stands close to 9' at the rail due to increased height for off-road ventures

After much contemplation, I finally bit the bullet last month and had a Dometic RV awning installed on the side of the trailer ... the awning is 9' wide and extends out 9'. It takes about a minute to set it up or take it down ... no ladders or help required

Yes, it was a bit spendy, but I am so happy with it and glad I spent the extra cash ... The basement is still piled while we wait for the carpet to be installed and have not found my camera yet , but will try to get a few picks of it and the wind deflector on my TV
