I for one can't wait to see if all YOUR THEORIES -
jive with my real life experience of this exact same unit

I'm sorry if I missed something. I see you tend to pull your own posts after a few hours which is difficult for me to follow.

I was under the impression you said it ran at the advertised wattage, that you weren't impressed with the low voltage start feature, and that you couldn't get it started with a 1K inverter. None of that sounds contrary to where I'm at with the unit.

I'm not planning to run it from an inverter. It's sure nice to think about, though - what it would take to pull it off. I don't know that it's something I'll ever do unless a battery truck turns over in front of my house.

Two 120amp/hour batteries wired together provide 240ah of juice. At 50% discharge you got 120ah usable. A 5amp draw pulls ~60amps across the inverter, or two hours continuous. Most of these boxes run about 1/3 time, so six hours. If you ran good batteries you might get away with 75% discharge, which gives you a couple more hours.

Generally you need 1amp DC for each 10watts AC with a good inverter. Use large wire and keep the inverter close to batteries, and use a good fuse. On the output side of the inverter I use 10g romex to the breaker box, where it's fused again.

Hi Khigh

lots of folks here specialize in theory, so I try not to get the real facts mixed up too much with the theories.
I can tell you for a fact a small 500 watt window ac won't run off a 400 AH flooded bank - maybe 1 hour, even with 500 watt solar coming in....
In theory it will run all day no problem at all.....  Psssst ....don't spoil the theory

Make it a Lithium battery truck & I will rush to your house also....

if 99% of the market since 1865 is Flooded & AMG batteries can you blame people for thinking how Fantastic - GREAT they are !!!!
Have you seen an electric car run on Flooded or AMG batteries ?
Why bust my NUTS trying to sell 99% Flat earth theory people - the world its really round
Its like i'm Sisyphus

Sisyphus? Fascinating.

I went to order the unit, never having found a better candidate.

The MSRP is $229. It's readily available for $159-$179. Best Buy had it for $139 (even though this ad says their refggular price is $119).

But it's $79 shipped to your door!

I have no affiliation with Bestbuy and in fact I pretty much hate them, but I'm not going to shoot myself in the groin to avoid them on a deal like this.

I assume it's an end-of-season clearance thing and won't last long.

I got mine amazon free shipping $159

The energy saving fan does not shut off as claimed
& unit averages about 335 watts per hour cycling on and off 50% - 60%
Not much differance in noise between compressor on or off.

But the remote is nice.

Hooking up my mini split tomorrow ..... Will see what happens
I got it because they said 4,000 to 9,000 btu range with heating & cooling.
Also good to 121F which window unit won't do

man i wish i would have found this thread before i started putting in my A/C.

I found a good deal on a dometic roof mounted A/C so i bought and installed it. Little did i know about the complications that would ensue.

Quite frankly my prime directive at the beginning of the conversion was maximize inside space, which meant put the A/C outside. The dometic unit is 12-13k BTU and draws about 1400W with the compressor running.

the first issue i had was that when the compressor kicked in in pretty much blew the 15A fuse in the house breaker box every other time. This was due to a small gauge /100ft extension cord.
A 12 gauge/50ft chord later the problem went away. However simultaneous running of several devices was really limited.

Next problem:
how to stat this beast with the generator. (Hyndai 2.2kW quiet)?
it took some tweaking but here was my solution:
first thing i did was install a hard start capacitor giving the generator a smoother start.
However when the AC fan running and the compressor kicking in at the same time the generator would still go into protection mode everytime...
what todo now? well simple start the FAN time delayed after the compressor had been running for couple of seconds and stabilized its current draw.

TADA it works. well kinda! the limitation of this system is rather stupid and highly inefficient. Since turning off the compressor would leave the fan running were back to the initial problem. The fan is running and the compressor starts and the generator will stall. So for me to have AC i leave it running on full blast all the time - stupid i know. temperature can be regulated be taking in warmer air from the outside...again this is extremely wastefull.

Then i found this thread....perhaps i will put in a window mount unit after all. I have a 1600W (3200peak) inverter with a 3 battery bank and 0 gauge wiring. sound like i could get some usable runtime out of the batteries and then use the generator to recharge the batteries. Or perhaps since the generator can now work in ECO mode i can leave it running all night long.

Just to throw this out, I have run my 12,000 btu Duo-Therm rooftop AC off of my 2000w Samlex pure sine inverter just to see if it would start it. I'm using flooded golf cart batteries also. Not saying I would get any useful time of running the AC off of my limited battery capacity, but running AC units off of a decent sized inverter and flooded batteries is possible. FYI my 2000 amp inverter recommends a 300 amp fuse between it and the battery and I've got about a 3 foot run of "0" gauge stranded wire running to it as well.

Yea that's pretty funny ...... Let me know how you guys run the AC on flooded batteries for more then 60 minutes

And I'll post a video of me and a 24 can case of beer P..........ing in the wind

Already been their & failed at that
