Windows?

Postby SalsaDog » Fri Apr 03, 2015 9:40 am

I'm a CCT noob, so please bear with me. I will be picking up my aluminum 6x12 v-nose April 17th. The finished walls
will be 2 3/4". It has 3/4"x2" aluminum ribs 16" on center. I'm thinking four 15"x 32"ish vertical windows. Questions:

Are trim rings trim-able?
What are my chances of finding used units?
Can trim rings be purchased?
Would anyone have vendors to recommend? I have checked vintage and ebay.

have you priced the windows being installed by the trailer manufacture. Mine were pretty cheap I thought.

I'm with you max6220. If I ever build another the factory will install the windows, insulation, and ceiling. And it would speed the build up a lot.

Id do smaller windows that do not require cutting "studs".

Thanks for the replies.

To have the factory install the windows would have coast just under $1800 for 5 windows. AND having additional insulation
(rigid foam) on the outside of the ribs was not an option. They also do not spray foam; I want and inch between the ribs and
against the inside of the skin.

I don't mind investing extra effort and a reasonable amount of money to build the cct they way I believe is should be built. I
just need to learn more about RV windows.

Surplus windows are readily available on eBay and they are cheaper than new. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_nkw=rv+trailer+window&rt=nc&LH_BIN=1

Be sure they come with the trim rings and screens. Trim rings are not really "trimable", they are made to fit a particular window.

The Kinro vertical slider windows I bought are hard to open, I think the center seal binds on the frame and you have to push really hard before it pops open. Maybe a one-time defect but maybe not, might want to steer to another brand.

Thanks dustboy, I'm thinking the trim rings are aluminum. I can saw aluminum on my table saw with my 80 carbide tooth
blade. I would cut a wood spacer to fit under the edge of the ring. This would be in the event a ring would be too wide.

Because of time issues, new windows are starting to look like a possibility? Once again economics are out the proverbial
window due to time constraints.
