Installing linoleum... glue, tape, loose lay?

I am at the stage of the floor covering install. I am going with linoleum. My wives uncle owns a flooring store and donated the flooring! I was just going to loose lay it but he said there is a good possibility of it shrinking. He suggested gluing it, but i worry about the smell and if i ever have to replace it. He also said it may be possible to use a good carpet tape just in the middle and not the sides. He also said not the secure the edges. I am just wondering what everyone on here has done and the results. Thanks in advanced. This is an awesome forum btw.

I don't have sheet flooring. One thing that does bother me is water getting under the flooring. I'd like the floor sealed around the edges or leave it loose to remove if there is water under the flooring.

My build is a small 5x8 with the kitchen in the back facing outside so I am not too worried about water issues.

Glue it for sure.
I used acrylic contact glue as the odours lower but if you install it early before the doors are on the odours will be gone in a few weeks

It probably depends on the lino you have and what the manufacturer recommends as to how to lay it, whether to glue it, etc.

I purposefully bought the heavy lino that does not have to be glued down altho I did glue a seam in one small area.

I installed the lino before building the interior walls, cabinets, etc. In the "open" areas like living room, etc., the baseboard around the walls keeps it in place. I have had no problems with shrinkage, movement, etc.

I used carpet tape around the perimeter plus a strip down the center of the floor. Still holding strong three years later!

My first build was a tape on the sides and one down the middle. It's been 5 years with no shrinking or other problems in that trailer.

I used the square self adhesive vinyl tiles and there has been no problems. On the other hand, if I were doing it again, I would skip it altogether with the exception of the galley floor where spills and dirt etc are easier cleaned with a vinyl floor. You simply never see the floor in most TDs and I'm thinking a good sealant coat of urethane or paint would be better anyway.

I do admit though, I like the looks of the vinyl floor. Good luck,

I just stapled down the edges after building the bed, wall and bed sliders, there really isn't anywhere for it to go... here is my build thread with all my build videos
