Cargo Conversion - Nebraska

Postby tmm72 » Tue Apr 12, 2016 7:22 am

Well I am started on my conversion here in Nebraska.
I have had the trailer for about a month and working on just the basics currently then eventually put in insulation, sink etc.
It is a 7x20 v-nose trailer that is going to be used for storing and hauling my kayaks.
Here are some pics of my progress.

The one thing that I am trying to figure out the best way to tackle is the WFCO 8735 that I have installed.
For the DC connections on the back do wire directly to those or put another fuse block and then wire the lights etc from there?

tmm72, Howdy;

As for the electric question, just wire from the converter to the lights or whatever ....
works fine for the 120vac and 12vdc.
Unless you are in a hurry to "get'er done", why not first insulate then attach everything to
the walls that you will have to disassemble later to add the insulation??? Seems like the way
you are attacking it is generating a much more labor intensive path to the finish line.

I hear you on the insulate now but I want to use if for a summer and make a list of wants that I need in the trailer.
Once I have a good list everything I need I will work on it over the winter and get everything in place.

The main goal that I accomplished was get a good way to haul the kayaks and the gear without having load and unload everything every time I want to go out and come home.

On the electrical I am trying to figure out what is a good way to hook the DC lines from the converter to the lights etc. The line that comes out is a heavier gauge wire that what I am connecting to the lights etc.

tmm72, Howdy;

That neat (?), looking gray box at the top of the page with "Google Custom Search" works really well
when you type in stuff "like wiring a cargo trailer" sorta like this;
viewforum.php?f=42
Hoe that helps some. There are some folks that have posted complete wiring diagrams ... there is
also a wireing forum when you look through all of them, think it's in the top block of headings...

Yes I have tried the awesome search feature and seen some diagrams etc but didn't see any wiring with the components, spent a evening going through many pages and different search terms with no ah ha moment. I was hoping someone would respond with tried and tested methods they use to help out with my project.
Thanks for your input.

I have no idea what the back of your converter looks like and you have not provided any pics of it so…….?

If you are trying to tie wires together of different sizes look for European Barrier Strips or terminal strips which will do the job.
There are 2 rows of holes that are tied together side to side and each has screws to tighten independently so each can be tightened for its wire alone.

Those should do the trick if I understand what you are asking?

Take a look at this post. The color coded diagram helped me when I wired my WFCO.

tmm72, Howdy;

Are you talking about Interior lights or The running lights that came with the trailer???
For some reason (not sure what exactly), but the question popped up so I'm asking. Because, if your are
asking about the running lights they will only need to draw their power from the Tow vehicle. all of the
interior lights that you will be installing or are already attached by the manufacturer can be wired directly to
your WFCO dc side where the auto style fuses go. As for the neg. wires, you can run then to a common block,
kinda of like what EZdog referred to just ensure you run a wire from it to the frame so you have a common ground.
Refer to the diagram in the link I posted in my last post here.
