Oh and do you know who Destry Abbott is?

I used to get him to chat on Facebook messenger, a massive wealth of riding location in AZ,

It is roughly 2,200 miles from my house. I will have to check the link out. Going exploring on KTM today. Thanks.

Looks like the weather is going to be nice out there. Got any rides planned while you are out there?

Hi. I brought the KTM-690R with me. Just got back from a 2 hr ride out into the desert. I discovered that the washes are a blast and probably the best riding. Just have to be careful on the rocks. I put 20lbs of air in the tires because I'm afraid of a pinch puncture, but the makes the front end easier to wash out. Still need to gain some confidence on the terrain... also, by myself so I am taking less risks.

Looks real good.... sure wish I were there.

I'm interested in hearing about how many AH you're using per day (24 hours) in the desert SW.

Thanks

flboy, Howdy;

Watch out for goatheads;

They'll let the air out of your tires and cause Miss Lexi some painful moments if she steps one one.

Goat heads won’t touch his motorcycle tires but will definitely cause the pup issues, I’d be more worried about the pup finding a scorpion and trying to play with that or a tarantula that roam our deserts

Which area did you end up in?

The sun is replenishing each day so far. This morning I am 77% which is down 117ah ( a little lower than normal). That is running the fridge, heater fan all night, radio, lights, charging laptop, etc.. I am running just about everything and really not conserving at all. I could run much less if I needed to.

Hank, thanks. Now I know what to call them. Lexus has already found them. Poor thing, she just laid down and whimpered as I pulled them out of her front paws. She got into them at a rest stop on I-10. None so far where I am at now.

In Florida, they are a bit smaller and we call them "sand spurs ".

Lex is enjoying the new smells and terrain. No scorpions yet.

I ended up at Hi Jolly. May move over to Dome Rock later this week, then down to Yuma. I have about a month to roam around before I need to be in Nebraska.

I never made it further south of Phoenix, we explored mostly the northern area.

Safe travels!

The 690R looks like a nice machine. Have you considered running Tubliss? I put it on both of my KTMs and I love it. My son had a cut in his rear tire from a sharp,edged object and didn’t notice it was running zero air pressure. I noticed it when we got back to the truck. We plugged it and put 12 PSI and were off riding again minutes later.

I definitely understand the risk mitigation. Do you carry a satellite communication device or a PLB with you when you are alone riding where there is no cell service? I wish I was able to get out west and ride with you. Maybe in another couple years after I get my gooseneck finished.

I am going to look into the Tubliss for the TAT this summer. I can see the benefit here.

I don't have an GPS SOS device yet. Will have for the TAT for sure. Family would like me to have one now since I go out alone from time to time.

New 280aH cells are doing great in the bank. They have been through a few cycles. 3mV difference between cells. Very well balanced. The 230aH bank reads exactly the same within a few mV. So I am fixed for now.

I have an extra 3.2V 280aH cell that I need to do something with. I think I am going to build into a laptop/phone charger if I can find a DC to DC converter that will take 3.2VDC in and up convert from there.

Your battery banks are doing great. I definitely want to do something similar on my gooseneck build.

You should take the spare cell and wire it to one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/373778303041?h ... SweuBhgfMT. It would make a great security system to keep the door handle lifting punks away when you overnight in Walmart parking lots. :lol:
