Tongue jack problems

Postby prohandyman » Mon Mar 12, 2007 7:00 pm

Had to be a little creative (when aren't you when building a teardrop) with the tongue jack. After replacing the swing-up jack with a verticle one, and installing a tongue box, clearance for the jack handle became a problem. It would not clear the box to turn. So I removed the handle, replaced it with a 1/2" - 3/4" pipe reducer, and made an adapter for my battery drill
(poor man's electric jack) to raise and lower the jack. Works great!Image

I have the same problem with handle clearance. That's a real nifty solution there and I may just try it myself. Probably won't carry the cordless drill, but will use a ratchet that I already carry or my trusty 4-way lug wrench! 8)

Carry the drill! you can use it in the gallery with a blender blade. :)

A sidewind jack would solve that problem as well... That's what I got for my little cargo trailer when I wanted to mount a box on the front.

Both good ideas, but I already had this jack and I'm a cheap-scate. Actually I had a swing-up jack on it before this one, and had to remove it for the tongue box clearance.Where was my head?
