Roof rack for cargo trailer

Postby drcurran » Wed Feb 17, 2010 8:05 am

I tried a search "cargo trailer roof racks" and I think came up with over 600 posts - ouch! I've seen roof racks on cargo trailers (mostly contractors and venders). Anyone help me out with a good source for racks. I'm looking for the very substantial type (Weather gurad comes to mind) that have about a 1.25" or 1.50" square tube, and the end supports bolt through the side of the trailer. Thanks for any help.

Cargo Rack

Postby EvilScotsman » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:03 pm

I assume that you mean Roof Baskets with multiple cross pieces and side that rise up about 6-8inches above the basket to have multiple anchor points as compared to a simple roof rack that is 3 bars bolted shortways across the roof. From what I can gather most of the cargo baskets are similar in make and price. According to a friend of mine who has roof baskets on top of his Boxtruck, if you have the ability to do so it may be easier to build one of your own [as it will be sized to your specific need] or to modify a smaller one to suit your needs. Basically what he explained to me was he purchased a small roof basket, cut it in half shortways, then bolted 4 bars to it [one on each side and two down the middle] to create a basket that was long enough to cover the roof of a boxtruck. But he recommended checking Etrailer as it has alot of trailer parts and some roof racks/roof baskets.

Hopefully this helps somewhat.

Roof Rack Info!

Postby Nitroxjunkie71 » Tue Apr 06, 2010 12:53 am

Dan,

Did you ever have any luck in your search for a roof rack? I too have been looking around for the same thing and finally found a spot close to home. http://tc-trailers.com/index.htm
I don't know a good price from a bad price but they sell 1 section for $65 regardless of the trailer width, and they have them for both flat top and round top trailers. I need a rack for a solar panel and a kayak. Below is a picture from their website.

The Deepest spot in Lake Superior, the largest of the Great Lakes is 1,333 feet or about 222 fathoms. This profound depth could easily contain the entire 1,250' Empire State Building, even with a 50-foot-tall King Kong perched atop.
