12 V 30 Amp converter

Hi All,

Beginning to think through my DC circuit for the cargo trailer. I will only have 2 RV light fixtures inside, along with a vent fan and an outside light. So not much of a DC load.

Anyone familiar with this converter ..

Will it do the job? Looks like the lightest and cheapest I have found.

while it will work unless I misread post it doesn't have a battery charger built in.

Why not use 12volt lights?
I bought these and they are great I really like the dimmable switch.
I have found that I don't really use the lights much except when I go in the trailer when it's dark,or if I need to read something I normally burn some candles.
they give off plenty of light and smell good I burn them outside also

Txgent a WFCO converter battery-charger is overkill for a trailer whose loads are all DC, but I believe the ease of wiring plus the battery charger offests the cost difference easily.

Jwhite I think TXgent intends to use 12V lights, he just refers to them as DC.

Obviously both terms are acceptable.

The lights you linked to are really nice and a great price, too.

I wished I'd seen those lights before I bought mine!

I saw the WFCO one. I had a breaker box and several breakers laying around, so have already wired in the AC ( 120 V ) circuit for the trailer. The 12 volt system I'll be installing will only be used for running the few lights I have and the ceiling vent fan. We aren't looking to charge a battery at this time, since we will always have the generator with us or shore power where we plan on staying.

I'm trying to stay on the cheap side so far, that proves a challenge at times..lol

Love those lights that were pointed out earlier! I do have a low ceiling in the trailer however, so looks like I wouldn't have room to mount those. Sometimes I think we may need to post a DUCK sign when entering ..lol

Honestly Its a really good idea to just get a WFCO or something like it with a 3 stage charger.. It serves as a breaker box, fuse box and charger/DC converter.. All for less then 100 bucks.. I guess if you already have a breaker box and a battery tender its not a must.. Its very nice when parking the trailer to be able to plug it in and both charge the battery and have power. Its how any commercially built trailer works..

If you are that far along then just buying a converter makes sense. One of the things that you do need to think about though is that what you want now may not be what you will want in the future. You do not want to be running a generator, the care and feeding ($4 a gallon as of today) of is a pain, and in many cases you're not allowed to run a generator after a certain time at night, and why do it if you don't have to. I have one that I will use when we don't have shore power for a couple of hours to recharge the battery. Progressive Dynamics has a 45 amp standalone converter/charger that I'm seeing on eBay for about $110.

Can the Progressive Dynamics Converter/Charger be used without a battery to simply run the 12v system when shore power is available? Eventually I will be installing dual batteries but for now I just want to get my trailer useable for Memorial Day Weekend at the track where power is available. (Most everything I need will be running 110-120 but I would like to be able to run my fan)

Thats the thing though.. If your ever going to add a battery/batteries. It makes since to go ahead and get a RV converter. If you buy just a basic 12v transformer you will end up replacing it later.. But I mean if your set on just getting something to run your vent fan then you can use almost anything that puts out 12v and is rated for enough amperage.. We also have a trip planned for Memorial weekend. You still have plenty of time. Heck I'm installing a full bath, 3 way fridge, power center, ECT,ect and I plan to be done by then!
