Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

I hate hidden fees

Postby digitek718 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 4:19 pm

I was really close to placing an order for a brand new haulmark transport vnose 6x14 today, but after looking at the final quote there was a material surcharge of 150 dollars at the bottom of the quote. I asked what this was and did not really get a good answer." Yes this is on all quote's, instead of raising the cost on the trailer for steel and such we have the "material surcharge". Haha..So in other words, we add this hidden fee in order to advertise at a lower price and attract more customers and then add the rest of the price of the trailer on at the end and hope they dont catch it..I hate hidden fees..Looks like Im gonna have to do some more shopping..Thats really sneaky of Haulmark..('')

I agree and would have walked out also. I bought my 5x8 last month brand new but would not have done so had there been any "sneaky" additionalcharges.

I recently was given a price for an all aluminum 5 x 9 cargo from Becks trailers in the Detroit area.

I made the hour trip to pickup and viewed the trailer and again quoted the price I was offered by email.

Back at the desk, the paperwork comes and I was informed there would be an 80 or 90 dollar "document fee". To add additional insult, the salesman returns from the managers office with news that the price offered was on a 2011 model which are all gone and the 2012 is another 150 bucks. No exceptions

I explained that this was no longer "fun" and left.

Brings back memories of the old car buying struggles in the 70's when it was no fun to buy a new car.

Hidden Fees

Postby drcurran » Sun Nov 13, 2011 11:18 am

Hey - good for you - you did the right thing by leaving. So often in sales, "they" know they have you "hooked" and figure a couple of hundred more dollars won't make a difference. Glad you had the "right stuff" to take a walk.

Dan

PS - maybe if more of us would take the walk it would happen less!

That is classic bait and switch. You should have reported them

Those friggin "Dock" fees! Really set me off. WTF why should we pay a fee for them to do the paperwork to sell their product. They have made them standard practice in car buying.

Sorry about the rant. :x
