7x14 and 7x16 trailer weights

Postby BC_Explorer » Mon Jan 07, 2013 9:57 pm

So I have been thinking of selling my 6x0 V-Nose and going to either a 7x14 or 7x16 CT for longer term travel.

I don't plan on going full bore on the conversion but would still like to have the basic bed, table/chairs, solar, cabinetry, on board water (20-25 gallons) sink, small washroom etc. While my new TV (2012 RAM 1500 w/ Hemi) has a hefty tow limit, I will never exceed it but would like to get some idea of what kind of weight some of your larger trailers have gained in the conversion.

The 7x14 or 7x16 CT I am looking at has a factory curb weight of 2125 / 2275 lbs and I cannot see for my needs, the CT topping out at much more then 5300 to 5500 lbs GVWR. Does this sound about right or are my thoughts on weight too low?

Thanks.

Mine was really loaded to the gills with cabinets, solar batteries and 80 gal water
No way you should be able to hit the 5300 limit much less the 7,000 for the axel
The smaller the trailer - the greater the cargo weight.

Some like springs & some like Dexter torflex axels, easy lube never adjust breaks
Something to think about.

Hi buddy...long time no talk.
Just open your rear doors and pull out a 6 foot long room that slides/supported by your open rear doors. That would be your bedroom and allow the rest of your trailer free.
Personally I would like to go to a single axle for better tight turns and aluminum for lighter weight. An hour away they sell aluminum MISSION cargo trailers and I have been eyeballing the MEC 6.5 x 12 v nose. Of course they sell larger ones as well. PM me if you want the dealer info...he said that his prices are competitive to others that sell steel.

I have a 7X14 with duel axles, bed, tv, rv toilet, freg, ac, front cabnet, batteries, power jack, finished out on the inside. I weighed at the truck stop, 3800 pounds.

Thanks for the offer, however I am in Canada and am about 1200 miles each way to Vegas and back. Besides the cost of gas etc, I would not relish dealing with border customs on each side of the border...

I have put the idea of a bigger trailer on hold for now as much as I want to, I don't have the time right to take on another CT conversion and be done for camping season. Perhaps an idea and project for fall though.
