Hey Don after reading through your threads I picked up on you going to Vogel State Park. That looks awesome up there. I see its only like 9 and a half hours or so. About 600 hundred miles per MapQuest. I would love to get my wife up there and to camp and maybe hike a little. Maybe ride mountain bikes with her. You will have to fill me in on how that goes. Things are happening at work personnel wise and I Kathy and I may need to take time off while we can. Funny But the last week in August is all that's available for us until Next May. I don't know what we will do but I may make it up there before you do. Or at around the same time. We love the mountains and that area is the most southern part of the Appalachians as you know. Beautiful country. But it is camping and she's hesitant.
Anyway enjoy your trip. You got me thinking. Do you think it will be sweltering hot up there in that last week of August?

I'm not looking to crash your camp site so don't worry brother!

if the camper was not in pieces we would leave this Saturday as the first week in August is available too but not so.

Tommy, if you can make it up there at the same time, would be great. We'll just be taking off on the MC some. Not sure on the weather, but sites have power and can run AC.

It is a nice area.. I am planning a Sept. Ocala NF trip also. I have 2 days I need to use before Oct. 1, so I'll string together a weekend and camp a few days.

I am looking forward to some good Ocala camping and riding this fall. I hope you will be able to get away some from work on a Friday or etc.. for some weekend trips.

Let me know on Ocala in Sept please. Long as the heat index isn't triple digits. I may go. I have summer cabin fever already.

The average temps for the last week in august in Vogel are high 83 and low of 60! Not bad at all. 2500 feet above sea level too.

We would arrive on the 26th and leave on the 30th. 3 days camping and two for travel but who knows. They may be booked up by now or by the time my wife makes up her mind!

I wonder if my draining gray water would be a problem in this environment? They may not permit it? Wish I could throw the KTM in there but the wife would never see me. it might be fun on some tight twisty asphalt roads. Only be gone for an hour or two!

See you Saturday.

Gray water may be an issue, but I have a portable 12gal tank on wheels you can borrow in any case if you decide to go somehwere where it may be an issue. Can roll over and dump at their dump station, or just let it overflow and act like you didn't notice. :-)

Hey Tommy,
You'd love that area, specially on the KTM. There's lotsa forest service roads (dirt/gravel) and you'd be surprised how many people ride dual purpose/enduro bikes on the road. The twisties are a blast regardless of what your riding on. They have a 50cc fun run up there every year sponsored by "Two Wheels of Suches". Some of the best waterfall views are accessible by dual purpose bikes only via USFS/NFS roads.

Don & Tommy
We'll have to try and plan a guy's weekend up there some time in the future, camping and riding.

New AC is killing it. Cools down much faster but runs long enough to dehumidify and runs off Eco mode on the Honda EU2000i. I think I found the sweet spot for this setup. Also have a valve to put in drain line so I can go slinger or not. Right now I have it open. It is about 90% humidity outside and when first turned on, it was pulling alot of moisture. Not so much after it cooled it down in there.

Air coming off the evaporator coils is <50 degrees F. Pulled down to set temperature in about 20 minutes from being closed up with no air.. Given the 8,000 BTU is still small generator friendly, I'd recommend this size instead of the 6,000 BTU for the size trailer I have (18'*7'*7.5' with a 2ft V-nose) .. which can do it... but works harder. I am willing to bet at the end of the day, the power consumption is a wash since it runs less but only draws an additional 100W when running.

Glad to hear that the 8,000 btu ac unit runs long enough to dehumidify the trailer … that report is what I have been hoping to hear.

Could you please elaborate on why you would not want to use the drain line you installed? I will soon be installing my 8,000 btu ac unit in my trailer and am learning MUCH from how you do things.

I will be using the drain line. I just mentioned I may put a valve inline to close it off and then condense will sling. Just gives me the option. I may be in a less humid environment sometime where that may actually work. In Florida, no point.

The condenser coils are so much larger than the previous AC. You can see the drain hose I installed on the back side (bottom right corner). It runs through the shelf and connects to the drain hose that goes down through the floor behind the appliance stack..

This AC was a tight squeeze. I designed the space so I could replace and re-fit easy but this is the absolute widest and tallest I can go. Retrofit was easy and only required adjusting inside trim, trimming the foam and re-taping. Airflow out the back seems very good and it is cooling great! Going to call this upgrade done!

I now see that you installed a drip edge on the exterior over the vent openings.

What prevents water from getting through the vent openings into the ac area?

I am thinking about a condition where you are driving in a hard rain and/or where a strong wind is driving rain water towards the vent openings.

I really haven't had any issue with that. This is the same vent used on almost all RV's with Gas Refrigerators... Water has to come up from underneath to get in. The drip edge prevents water from running down the surface from the roof and splashing in on the inset ridges... I did get some splashing before I did that.

What I did do was make that area pretty water friendly. Any water gets in, it will be on flooring materials which I lined the shelf with. I caulked really well so water could not find its way into the walls and will drain back out. If you look real close at the picture, you will see what I mean.

I have been in some real good downpours on the road and have not had any water get in. I just had everything apart when I put in this new AC.. No signs of water from the last year in service.

Air conditioning is a glorious thing. My wife calls it a "life support system". Not optional in Florida. 8) 8)
