For those that complained of leaks by doors or roofs- I have none. Lots of rain and wind but where I'm camped I'm protected from the wind.
So I guess I can recommend American Haulers as a good trailer even though it's not that one expensive brand.
An axle flip is something I'd like but haven't done because of my pole-barn door height. Right now my trailer tongue is on the ground to level trailer and divots dug for rear jacks. I do plan on parking tire's on boards - even brought saw to make them. But still don't like how low it sits. So might give up on indoor winter storage.

Well, she's not goin in the barn now! And you might need a set of stairs, too. So, what was the reason to jack it up?
Off road? It looks cool. Is the ramp at a steeper angle now? I remember when I first got mine the hitch ball was too low and the rear of the trailer was higher than it should be, I rode my Harley up the ramp and it got high centered at the ramp/floor intersection. It took out the spring that holds the kickstand up and I had to roll it backwards down the ramp. Well it weighs 800 lbs and the kickstand was hanging up and things were getting crazy real fast. I had to call my wife to come out and hold up the kickstand while I wrestled that beast down the ramp, damn near dumped it right in front of the house! First thing I fixed was the hitch ball height. Then the kickstand spring.
Anyways, that insulation installation looks real good. That's gotta help in the winter. Nice job. You've built quite a rig there, you should be proud of yourself. Thanks for all the pictures.

Thanks McDave
The pic above isn't my pole barn it's the shop where I mow. Since I need the recommend welding on the axle flip my boss helped me. His door is much smaller than mine. I'm only about 4" from fitting in mine.
Glad to be able to post pics again. I'm not sure why I wasn't able to for awhile.

That axle flip looks nice.

I am thinking about flipping mine for some additional ground clearance, but I have "drop axles" and not the straight axles. I can't really see your axle type from the pictures. Do you have a straight axle or drop axles?

Thanks,
I have drop axles which is what the kit is made to work with. For my trailer there is an issue. The trailer manufacture uses as narrow as possible axle length. When flipped the ubolts are very close to the curvature of the drop. This could cause ubolts to "walk" around the curve. My boss who did the "recommend" tack weld on the spring perches also did a tack to prevent the ubolt from following the curve. He didn't tack the ubolt only a spot on axle right before curve.
But today he said he thinks we should add a couple of inches to the axle it would be safer. When we saw the issue when doing the flip, we stopped. The next day I placed a call to Dexter the axle and kit manufacturer. They say that my issue is because of trailer manufacture. Trailer manufactures according to Dexter, claim consumers want as low( why drops are used) and narrow as possible, trailers. They also seem aware that this could be a problem. They didn't want to comment on our solution- the tack weld for ubolt or safety of. I did get all the info for a straight axle but I'm thinking that's way way to high and to much money. And since my boss brought up the adding a few inches today I'm hoping he'll do it for me -free. Won't be for awhile because his welder broke doing another job.

Its sort of mine!

Postby Padilen » Wed Jul 06, 2016 8:57 am

I'm still trying to get someone over to help me mount awning. I think I've figured it out but I'm not able to do by myself.
I have another diagnosis for my pain and hand numbness. Thoracic outlet syndrome, so therapy was ordered, for 18 visits. I should be halfway through but have only been once. The only places Dr wanted me to go lacks PT's and appointments. I'm going to have dual sessions for back and for the outlet syndrome. The one I had hurt hurt hurt but for a few days I had improvement .

Its sort of mine!

No help yet for awning I've waited most of day. Turned on AC and it fails to keep temps low. The compressor shuts off at 84-85 and doesn't come back on until 89-90. Gets to 84-85 shuts off. Fan stays on. I've unplugged and reset still operates this way. It's 93 + outside, so not much relief.
So I guess I'll have to rethink using a window type AC and cutting "stud".

After searching I've found this to be the issue most complained about. I also found a "hack" add a fan blowing back at unit. I tried this and my temps dropped into the upper 70's with compressor staying on. The tech page for LG suggest slow fan speed so I've changed that now. I will recheck in an hour or so.

Sorry to hear you didn't get the help. I've been there before when I needed two sets of hands.

I didn't read back on the thread... but is your LG AC a portable with one hose? On my last build, I started with one of those and even modified it to be a two hose unit. I was never really satisfied with it. Given the design and they way they exhaust, they seem to always pull a certain amount of air in from the outside and on a hot day, it just can't keep up unless you just get a huge one... at which point, you may as well get a ceiling mount given the power they draw.

In my current build, I have a 6,000 BTU window unit in a 7*18 with 2'ft Vnose and it cools in full sun in hot Florida. I was working inside it yesterday and it was nice. If your trailer is well insulated , a 5,000 BTU will do the job. There are many creative ways to mount them either permanently or slide in. I have done it both ways now with the latest being built into a cabinet at the ceiling. There are many good ideas on this forum as you well know. You'll be able to find something that will work for you. Best of luck!

Yeah it's one hose. I'm not a big fan of AC, but need it for my dog when he is left in trailer. I went back out and it was at the correct temp. So adding a fan and lowering the units fan speed did help. The 93-95 outside temp is about our highest. Most likely I wouldn't be out camping in those temps. I just was testing so I'd know if it could keep up. I thought my unit had malfunctioned. I'm actually glad to learn where it fails and how to deal with it.
