Why did you choose a Cargo trailer?

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Postby GPW » Mon Oct 18, 2010 6:12 am

I found it utterly AMAZING how fast a commercial TT depreciates ... :o It wasn't 2 years and I was "underwater", owing more than the tt was worth ...
Dirty little business those commercial RV trailers ... Very Poor construction, requires covered storage , or they quickly leak and fall apart left outside ..Low payload carrying ability, High (expensive)maintenance , everything (parts/appliances )is 5 times the price of normal things... and dealers who charge like Lawyers for simple labors ... :o Makes me wonder how they've fooled the public this long ...
CTs , however seem to be just the opposite .. :o Durable , low maintenance , practical, made to live outside ... and generally seem to hold their value very well ...because they're made to last ... I wish we had known about these before we bought a Jayco TT , which is a total POS ripoff ... and now nearly worthless (in 3 years), and only halfway paid off...
There’s no place like Foam !

Yes the commercial TT depreciates while the CT seem to hold their value

Not as prone to leaks as a Travel trailer

my last travel trailer leaked and I had to replace some rotten wood not fun at least it wasn't for me.

I do wonder with the down turn in travel trailer sales
and the relative low cost of cargo trailers that the cargo trailers won't do what the pick-up trucks did
when a lot of people started buying them due to the low cost and now they cost an arm and a leg.

I contracted cargo envy from Scuba Jeff.

Being able to stand up and put your pants on was a biggy for me.

They tend to come in handy when you have nomadic children who move a lot also.

why a CT?

size 6X10 can fit 2 comforrtably; we can stand up to change

height mines 6-1" I can stand up straight in the centre without my boots on ...BUT I have to watch going out so as not to bonk the head on the aptly named door headder ...

durable

relatively light 1300 lb dry; now 1600

GVW of 3000 (ie I can add 1400 payload ... :)

flexability; i use it for camping; hauling building materials; motorbikes; ... etc; 2 barn doors on the back and one on the side ...

I've learnt how to organize food andcoleman stove so its all easily accessable out one rear door ... onto a small table and I'm set up in 2 minutes ...;

I added lots of insulation ....

I installed a small fire place its good to below zero

Just have to figure out an awning system ... solar charger ...

Reason #19: :D No need for built-ins. You can use standard furniture in them. :D

Ok I will just as soon as I get well and get one.
I am so much liking the idea of having a cargo trailer to
haul my mobility scooter and also camp in.
If things work out I may be getting one sooner
than I thought possible.
than I'll have my own "chick Magnet"

DDR,

Burnt mushrooms or dried pears and bacon grease.

Notice the riveted cauldron. Some witch's brew I suspect.

Happy Halloween!

Pete,

Get one big enough that you and she can bump mobility scooters together.

Reason #21: Stealth camping in cities. (Most cities have ordinances against RVs parked on the streets. Not so for cargo trailers. Hence, don't put windows on the left side - the street side.)

I went with a used heavy duty 6x12 that had a window already installed on the side and a camper type door. The sides have been insulated and I'm fixing to do the ceiling and put panels up there too.
I'm going to keep it very simple but will install 110 lights and receptacles and run some solar items I already have.
Need a higher watt charger soon though.
I got this trailer because I'm getting to old for tents and sleeping on the ground.

Not sure any of these are new, but:

1. Being able to design the layout myself
2. Stealth aspect
3. Ability to open the entire rear side for a view
4. About 1/4 the cost
5. Being able to use camping gear I already owned
6. Mattress of my choice: 6" natural latex foam, worth every penny
7. It's the only one just like it.
8. Frequently I don't even have to unhitch it to make it level and stable.
9. What everyone else said
10. I keep discovering new things I like about it.
