I hope I don't come off wrong but I have seen to much to not say something. I am kinda in the same boat so to speak. How to pull 2 trailers, I have a camp trailer and my rail trailer. I can't afford a toy hauler so looking to sell my camp trailer and make my own from a cargo trailer. I have seen some great ideas here, and like building my own stuff. Maybe you could make one of these, for a small boat. http://boatloader.com/instarackspecs.html

I had often thought of trying to do the same and finely came up with the idea of hauling my 8 ft two man boat in my toyhauler. It turned out to be a perfect fit. I would love to have a regular boat with me at times but this has sufficed at most places I camp.

Experience is the best teacher. Double hitching can be dangerous and it is not very forgiving when emergencies happen. Safety first and foremost. Build it where you are safe staying in it and haul it safely so you can enjoy it. I am building my CT toyhauler for the same reason. I need to get my wife out of the tent and be able to take our bike too.

Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

I'm not interested in towing with a rear hitch on my cargo trailer, but I'd like to be able to use a hitch mount bicycle carrier or a cargo tray. Any solutions for this? The bumper on the rear of my continental cargo tail wind is an "open c shape" and not very deep, maybe 1/2" - 3/4".

Anybody?

I made this one, but the rear of my trailer was a 2x4 rectangle steel tube. I imagine you could do something similar, but tie into the rear two cross members instead of just the back one like I did.

This photo might also show you what happens when the trailer controls you. I have posted this before.

Image

The trailer took control when pushed by the wind from a passing tractor trailer at just 55 mph or less. I had brakes and an equalizer hitch. But I could not control the trailer at all when it decided to take up two lanes of highway.

So I suggest that one be cautious when it involves trailers and brakes. I will never have one w/o them again. And I would be careful with what I tow.

Glad you weren't hurt.

It does prove a wood frame is strong as long as its bolted down.
