The simplicity.
So easy to use and get rolling. Cheap too !
We have had a few caravans and would never go back to them after building the Tear.
Take it easy.

P.S. Bob....please consider the link for trailers below...
they got the VERY BEST & have lots of dealers in your area.
they can also built exactly what you want.

Jerry, I finally made contact with a Car-Mate dealer in WV today. He is about 150 miles away, but going on your recommendation, I am not letting the distance scare me off. Car-Mate's website is very limited with information on construction features and so forth and the factory was not that much help with that or MSRP. They directed me to their dealers. The dealer I did make contact with is sending me some 2012 literature and pricing that he has via mail and hopefully that will help me. His next load of trailers from the factory will arrive in about 6 weeks and he does not have any other in stock for me to look at (for quality and type of workmanship, etc).

If I like what I see in the literature, then it will be a long wait to travel to his dealership. Will I be able to wait that long? Time will tell. Hmmmm, wait a minute, I am trying to set up a trip to Central PA in about 3-4 weeks, maybe I could arrange to visit the factory in Western, VA right after that. Mapquest says the two locations are only two hours away.

Try this site to check prices , when you talk to them they normally go down about $250 on the price

This is the biggest dealer for car mate trailers

The factory is in Leeper Pa ...... But won't sell direct unless you live outside their dealer network
I picked mine up from the president of the company Greg. & Ron the sales manager.

Just remember there are CarMate trailers and all the rest are SOB's
Some Other Brands :D :D

What makes my trailer special to me?

I built it, it's paid for and it turns heads. :D

Our trailer is special to us because my big brother built it for us. I grew up on my grandfather's sawmill, and my brother still lives there. He used some of my grandfather's techniques and even some of his old tools to craft the woodwork in the galley and inside the cabin. One of my grandfather's trademarks was his hand-hewn beams. My brother made little teeny ones for our TD, and I think of my grandfather when I see them.

So many reasons we love our TD. It's everything we need, and nothing we don't. It's comfortable, and we love it more each time we use it.

If everyone loves their TD as much as we like ours, it's no wonder teardroppers are a tight-knit community.

I just checked this latest site out for Trailer Super Store and they are right on my way in PA (from VA on I81) to my other original destination in 3-4 weeks and it looks as if they have stock. I may just stop there instead of the detour to Leeper, PA. I am sure I can get enough information from them and look at several trailers in stock at the same time. Thank you for the leads. And the listed prices for what they do have in stock seem quite competitive for a well built trailer. I will come back with my findings after the trip.

Economy is good ? If you say so...ask the unemployed, underemployed, and those who just gave up how good it is.

But I digress.

My trailer is a transporter. It takes me to places where colors exist that I just can't see at home, sometimes feeling like Dorothy would have felt opening her door to munchkin land.

It takes me away from the rush of daily life. Even on days off (like today) if I were home I'd wake and get about mundane things. When I'm in serenity, time changes...I'll lazily wait for the urge to move, waking gently (unless the camp ground has trash pickup at 7:45 -- like they did today --- hydraulic pumps and slamming dumpsters are better at jolting awake then the best alarm clock)

Best of all, I'm comfortable not sleeping on a mat. It's affordable, I still get 25 mpg pulling it. It's easy to back into spots. I spend on my while trip what the class c and 5th wheels spend getting out of their city or town. 90 miles from home, I estimate 4 gallons used.

Not bad.

I built it, my wife likes it, having people ask about it, telling them "I built it" and having them tell me they like it, it looks cool, etc.
last week we took it to a week long camp meeting, we had a tiny cabin to put the kids in, and the TD was our private bedroom. Packing for the trip, 11 days, 6 people, was no big deal as the TD swallowed everything the van couldn't, and still had room to spare!
the best things I've added:
-my side tents (see signature) allowing my wife and I private changing areas that just about double the useable space of the trailer.109765
-Beach umbrellas made both side tents safe from the rain ( it showered almost every day) and kept the sun out/off when we wanted shade.
-Air conditioning, many nights it was in the 80's and high humidity all week.

I love my trailer because it keeps me sane. It is everything I want because I made it that way.
Full air ride suspension.
10" brakes.
27" LCD LED TV.
33 gallons of water.
6 gallon water heater.
Ducted forced air heater.
Full kitchen in the back with refrigerator.
Awnings.
The most comfortable fold out bed made I made from the fold and tumble hinges I removed from my Four Wheel Camper.
250 watts of solar, 200 AH battery and a 2000 watt pure sine wave inverter.
Exterior shower.
Porta Potty.

She goes anywhere the Landcruiser will go.
FYI, I don't do campgrounds much.

Taco Jeff,
Nice looking rig.
I like the ground clearance. I assume you used a straight axle.
Hope my someday will look that sharp.

Thank you very much.
I used a 3500 lb axle for the big brakes and air bags for the adjustability.
I lower the trailer when we get to camp.
Let me know if I can help you with any of your ideas.
