Why a cargo trailer?

Cost, durability, no leaks, I get what I want, how I want it and no more, bragging rights, oh and did I mention cost. I bought my CT for $2K and not counting parts from my existing donor trailer, I have less than another $2K in the build. Labor is not a factor since I work really cheap when I am working for myself. To get a toyhauler that is anywhere close to the durability of my CT it would cost me about $15K+ and I would have to accept the floor plan they have or pay a lot more money for a custom build.

Bragging rights is wonderful thing, Yes I built it, and as the husband and wife walk off hearing her ask him if he could build one for them. I just got on his scheisser list and he's wishing he had not stopped and asked questions.

I don't think many of us got a cargo trailer because we were afraid to or unable to build a TD or TTT.

I got a cargo trailer for many reasons:
It fit my lifestyle and needs better than either a larger RV or a smaller TD could.
I was able to use it the day after I bought it, but I can customize it as much as I want in a continuing process.
It's versatile and can haul our large streetbikes or a small boat.
It's rugged and able to handle the rough narrow gravel roads of our mountains.
Light to pull, but big enough to stand up in.
It is easier to get into small boondock camping spots.
I can limit the finishes, carpet, and woods to ones that don't offgas fumes.
It's big enough to carry a solar panel for battery recharging.
More room inside for lots of extras, a large bed, table etc.
Room enough to shower, or segregate wet waders or shoes etc.
If the weather is nasty, I can heat water or cook whatever if I need to for a meal inside.
There's room for a propane heater or furnace.
And the list could go on and on.

I've owned several RV's and none of them were built EXACTLY the way I wanted.
With a cargo you can build to suit YOUR needs/wants.
You can also build as bare bones to as fancy as you want.
In my future build I am building for a mobile hunting camp.
I hunt all over the south and don't want to be tied down to one place as I would be with a permanate cabin.

Mine started out honest with no plans to convert. I'd never heard of it in fact. I was looking to buy a trailer to haul a Rzr and a 4wheeler when we go camping. Decided it would be smart to get a CT so when I pulled the toys out we could throw an air mattress down and not have to worry about setting up a tent. As soon as I got it home my wife mentioned how nice it would be to have a shower. It took off from there and then I found this site and the realization that my all original and unheard of idea wasn't at all. Big surprise to me. There are a million great idea here though, and many I wouldn't have thought of on my own. It was a lot of work but my wife and I both miss the time we spent together building the CT which she calls the COW. "Cabin on wheels" It wasn't until after we started building it that we looked at toy haulers. Seeing how they are built and what they cost, I'm glad we built the CT. I would have to spend more than $30k to be happier than I already am with our COW.

I suppose I'm lucky. In South Carolina there is no mandatory tax or road use. There's no inspections. and no Tags. When I've hauled it across state lines... I have been pulled over but when I say S.C. most already know cause others have gone through pulling various trailers. Campers of commercial make must have tags and insurance, Not so with cargo trailers.
