Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Re: RV awning install

I wish someone would take some close up photos and do a tutorial on how they installed the awning, I have a bag awning but would rather have the type attached to the trailer like the last post.
I found these on ebay

Johnie,
I'll second jwhite's appreciation of some detailed photos of your installation.
Thanks,

The below pic is of the awning rolled out.

The trailer is a 7 X 14 cargo trailer with a flat roof, the awning is a 12 foot awning with long arms.
The awning was installed per the directions of the A&E Domitic 8500 Awning.
The long arms were necessary to reach the lower part of the trailer were there is material strong enough to install the bracket.
You will need to measure per the awning measuring directions.
When the awning is rolled up, it is above the top of the trailer, this was necessary to clear the top of the door.
Also to provide clearance for the door, the awning rail was installed with the screws under the awning. The rail can be installed either way.
An awning roller was installed on the door so that the edge of the door does not rip the awning fabric.
When the awning is rolled out care is taken that the awning arms are extended to the point that the door does not swing out and catch the awning,
the long awning arms allow this to happen.

The install was not hard, just measure properly, and follow the install directions

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any question?

Johnnie, is the width of the Dometic 8500 the width of the fabric or the total distance to the outside of the arms? I have a 6x12 and I'm not sure if the 12' awning would fit or how much smaller I should go.

You will find by looking at the measurement aspects of ordering an awning, the measurement is from the outside of the awning arms.

I would suggest, since you have a 12 foot trailer, a 10 awning would be the awning use should use, this will allow you to position the awning from side to side,
for proper installation.

My 12 foot awning arms are 12 foot 2 inches, out side to out side, with the awning fabric being 11 foot 3 inches.

My trailer has a flat roof, as in not rounded, if your trailer has a rounded roof, I think that could cause you installation issues.
