You can partially compensate for that by towing slower.

I'm a tad under 6 feet so I can stand in the 72-74" ceilings. But somehow those 78 inchers seem so much more spacious. Gonna go with the tall one.

I agree! :) The extra inches allow me to insulate the floor from the inside a and maybe add more insulation space to the ceiling.

Maybe you need one of these:

Less than stellar reviews but one guy said he powers it with a cordless drill instead of a hand crank.

Rented a 12x6 dual axle Uhaul cargo trailer to test my backing skills. A uhaul is 18' long, which is too big, other brands are a foot or two shorter. Might be able to swing it. Question, were I able to get the trailer about 3/4 in to the space but angled, and remembering I'm on an incline, suppose we chocked the wheels, disconnected the trailer from the car, use a hand dolly to move the tongue LATERALLY, with the chocks preventing further movement down the incline, think we could move that tongue over LATERALLY so the trailer is fully off to the side of the space and in line with the rest of the driveway? The chocks should hold it right? We'd effectively be pivoting the trailer on the tires to straighten it out in to the confined space. I'll post few pics to show later today.

What axle type are you considering? A single axles should be easier to turn in tight corners, especially if you use the dolly that you first posted. I would estimate the front tow bars to be about 4'. But you can confirm that by going out and measuring CT's on dealer lots. Four feet and twelve feet gives you two feet less then the Uhaul you rented. That should help.

Without having seeing your the actual slope on driveway, it is hard to really say what problems you might have with using the chocks. But my guess is yes, it can be done. But think about the statement in my signature below: "Nothing is impossible for the man who does have to do it himself!"

sbshaver, Howdy;

Are you attempting to parallel park the trailer in the space you showed in the photos
he (which would have you doing a "Blind-side Back as it's called in the Trucker's World),
or are you attempting to park parallel to the car in the next bay to the right ?????
Do you have a lawn tractor? Have you thought about a front hitch set-up (allows for the
pivot point of the Tow Vehicle to be closer to the trailer axles)? Regardless, you might
want to paint some reference lines to help you to not go to deep and not to shallow.

One reason uhaul trailers are longer overall than regular 12x6 trailers is they have very long tongues perhaps to accommodate the elaborate emergency brake systems. You see part of the emergency brakes in the last photo of the sequence. The trailers themselves are heavier duty and well made. They're way heavier too though our old Sienna had no problems towing it.

Also, in terms of sliding over the trailer laterally with the rear wheels chocked, I was thinking of a jack dolly similar to something like Dustboy posted. But more simple. No motor.

I also won't be getting dual axle. Good to know they're easier to back up. This uhaul was far easier than mov than mye old teardrop trailer btw.

@Hank I'm trying to park in that spot that has hedges on three sides on the slope. I post a pic of it here with the old trailer cover crumpled up on the ground. That spot on the right is (I think) the public street setback and I dont think they'd let me store the trailer there. If they did, my problem would not exist. So if you mean the spot on the right, with the trashcans, no, that's not where I am trying to park the trailer.

I think once you get your trailer, with a bit of practice you'll be able to confidently one-shot park it right where you want it. If you have any buddies that are more experienced at backing up trailers, bribe him/her/it to spend an afternoon tutoring you. Once you figure out which way to set up, and what to watch for as you back up, it'll be the same thing every time.

Also, if you keep your backing up skills sharp by doing it at home, you'll be less likely to find yourself in a bind on the road should you inadvertently get yourself into a backing up situation.

Yes i think I can make it work. The Uhaul was too big, but the single axle 12x6 trailers should fit, along with some creative tree trimming. Now, anyone got a good link for chock blocks? Amazon right? Camping world?

I started out towing trailers a long time ago probably 16 years ago. My dad taught me how to back them into a spot (he drove transfer trucks for years); he always backed guided me into the spot and told me which way to turn the wheel. I think the only way to get good is to have an experienced person back you in to the spot until you get good enough to understand the fundamentals of backing up. Talk to your ground guide about what their hand signals mean. I always have them tell me which way to move the trailer and let me figure the rest out. Ground guides will, at the very least, keep you from backing your trailer into your house and doing double damage. I have seen people use backup cameras on their trailers, but instinct and a good set of eyes on your target are the key to success. You can't see through a hard-sided trailer wall, and mirrors can only help you see so much! Just my $0.02

Good luck!

sbshaver. Just a thought and not sure if you purchased your trailer yet. That U-haul is wider then a 6x12 CT and the U-haul seems to fit fine , you may now want to consider a 7x12 single axle trailer as that extra 12" interior width would make a big difference in a 12' long trailer.

Thanks, yes Uhauls seem a bit wider and yes, a 7x12 seems way roomier than 6x12. but oh the price...the horror...
