Mike S, Howdy;

Lots of different applications that use "wet" bolts/screws/rivets. By "wet" I mean
dab some on the threads or dab a dollop in the hole just before installing the
fastener of your choosing and then wipe off the excess. We even used to spray on
sealant on the F-14's as a corrosion protection layer in the painting process.

Loctite Red ... used to use it on H-3 and H-60 Helicopters when I worked on them (it was specified in the maint. manuals).
Skins were 0.030" regular #2 Phillips screws ... great stuff. Those helicopters vibrate a lot more than most folks think...

X2 on this we use it also on the coast guard 60s that I work on. But you could also just use some pop rivets as well. We just put them in wet with sealant then put a little more on the head to seal it when me make skin or structural repairs in which you can't get to the back side to buck a standard rivet

So with Red Loctite, the procedure would be; unscrew the screw all the way, coat the threads and the head with loctite, put some in the hole, and re-insert screw. I think I'll give it a try on one section of the trailer.

Only need a drop on the tip of the threads, it will spread out over the length as it winds it's way in.
Sometimes less is more .... On the next section of trailer try a dab of silicone in the hole then screw
the fastener back in and wipe off the excess silicone. That way you can evaluate the 2.

Loctite is not meant to be used on sheet metal screws. highdesertranger
