Less than $300

I have this on my trailer and is the best way to go IMHO on a cargo trailer. Mine is the classic version 11 foot. I didn't want a regular RV awning since the arms would make it impossible to open the door all the way open when needed.

Ah yes your trailer was the one I originally found it on! I couldn't remember who had it. Thanks for the inspiration though, I will be getting one for my trailer conversion this spring.

Does anyone know of any videos or other posts showing how the Bag Awnings are opened up and closed? I could not find any.

Thanks kudsu,

I suspected it was something like that. And I guess that storing it is the same process in reverse. Looks like two people make it easier, but on some of the bag awning sites or in forums, I did read that one could do it him/herself, but that it was a bit harder.

I just went and looked at my trailer and the door is only 26 inches from the end, so a 32 in door, when left fully open, leaves no where for the support arm to be located on the trailer itself (patio style). So that means whether I use, I will have to have uprights.

I wonder if all Bag Awnings are installed by threading the end through the canopy railing on the trailer? How well does it hold up that way while traveling?

I put mine up and take it down by myself. It is a bit of a pain but very manageable for one person once you get the hang of it. As long as the wind isn't blowing too bad it is doable. The only problem I have is I have to stand on a cooler or similar to get it in and out of the bag and work the zipper. My trailer is a bit too tall for me at 5' 10". If you strap it down with some tiedown straps it will handle pretty high wind without damage also.

Thanks everyone, your input has been very helpful. I think I'm gonna go with the bag awning type. I think it will fit my needs. Now to find the one that fits my budget. At this point I'm using my trailer to sleep in but I still want to do a few more things to it. When I get a little closer to being finished I'll post some pics of what I did to my trailer to fit my needs.

Thanks again!

I've noticed ,on popup campers, they leave the bag awning attached all the time. I don't think its necessary to remove it every trip. Also has anybody seen one attached without the awning rail? I've got a bag but no awning rail.

This is my 1st post but have been reading great info here for some time now. I have a MIssion brand 8' X 12' double wide snow mobile trailer which I converted to haul my motorcycle, when the scoot is out ~ we're able to convert into a camper (minus shower & potty). The awning I purchased is 7'9" long (along the trailer) by 8' wide. It came with a carrying bag for the awning and another bag for the poles, ropes and pegs ~ everything was included and first rate quality. I thought I would have to find some way for extending the poles, but to my surprise they were absolutely long enough that I must be careful as not to lift the outside edge higher than the side of the trailer. I purchased the awning thru http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com . The awning requires the 'C' channel to be attached to the trailer, purchased from the same source. No problems with the door dragging the awning, but just in case .. I did install a roller wheel on the door corner which I purchased from a local RV sales dealer. I hope this has helped anyone who has been looking for an awning.

The bag awning is permanently attached to the awning channel with a screw at each end though the rope and channel. They cannot be taken on and off at will. They are just as permanent as a standard RV awning which attaches the exact same way to a trailer. The rail is easily purchased for very little money from the above posted link for bag awnings.

For our 7 x16 conversion, we used a 10' x 20' flea market vendors awning. Using 1 inch conduit from Home Depot, the fittings are locked in with eye screws, making it very strong. While everyone else's awnings where taken down at night and during high winds, ours remained up for 2 months of very heavy oceanside winds, enjoying the 20º temperature difference. We lay one side on the top of trailer, holding it down with u bolts in brackets on each end. Holding a 6 ft leg in one hand, we lift the frame, and insert the legs. It takes 20 minutes for the wife and I to put it up. The cost was under $200
