Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Well I've got a small progress report! Got the trailer walls insulated, going to pick up pre cut insulation for the ceiling tomorrow and have started to carpet the walls!

Not alot to show right now but nothing wrong with slow and steady! Got ALL the 12v electronics function tested on the 12v out converter to the switch bank, and plan to start building front cabinets and framing bathroom next week after I get the ceiling insulation hung. Also found a -/+ fused distribution block from a boat that is going to work great.

I hung all the carpet by myself, pretty easy actually. 6x8 rolls of "Outdoor Area Rug" is what I'm using and works great considering I have 6' walls. What I do is get the top and bottom lined up where I need them, then put a small screw in each top corner to hold it there. Then, moving down I press any wrinkles out and make sure we're still square at the bottom. After that I put 4 screws across the length of carpet about midway down and break it up into two gluing sections. Drop the top down, spray the walls and backside of carpet, adhere and repeat vice versa for the bottom. Turns out great!

Just want to thank you guys on here for the ideas and advice.

Awedge, you are flying on your build. My windows won't be here until Tuesday, so ceiling insulation was a far as I could go without windows. Carpet on the walls won't happen until I finish the kitchen build out, so once of the last things to install for me.

Love the progress.

Thanks Professor! Kinda slow at work right now so I can do a majority from home; in turn I have some time to work on the trailer! I plan on adding a couple windows, just not sure when haha. I figure when I do that, I can score the carpet with a razor blade and then cut the luan, insulation and skin all in one swoop.

I think for the bathroom, I'll carpet the whole interior and use a 1 piece shower that I found at lowes and frame that right into the corner. Comes with doors too! I'll line the rest of the bathroom with vinyl wall material. For the studs once the carpet is up i'll just do measurements from the rear of the trailer while the top of the studs are still exposed. Measured everything while I had the panels off and it's square enough for me! one complaint I do have however is the gaps between the floor and walls I found when I pulled the lower piece of trim off. Some sections worse than others.... Oh well, nothing Great Stuff can't fix!

Hopefully have some more progress this week. Oh yeah, call me Adam.

Another small update today. Finished the walls except for a 4' or so gap, but that's where the bathroom is going to be so it might work out fine! Ceiling insulation will be ready to pick up Wednesday. And started mounting exterior lighting. I'm going to use 4 of these (picture) 2 rear and 2 on curbside of trailer. The trim they're mounted through mounts to 1 1/2 x 1 angle iron in the trailer, so it makes for a perfect mounting point. Also started swapping all the park lights on the trailer to LED. Trailer was ordered with LED's but shipped with regular bulbs

Bob,

They are ABL 500 series lights. Link Below. I'm not sure where they were purchased from, when a manufacturing company I worked for change ownership, all loose assets were sold and their product was brought in. I was lucky to get my hands on these 4! They will not be cheap and what I paid will not be accurate. I heard they're in the ballpark of $200 each. 12v-24v, Class 1/ Div 1 etc etc. They are awesome but even Rigids would be a cheaper alternative!

Bob,

I have used Kawell on my truck and am trying these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009ES3F0Q/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008XZAQDU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 on my trailer

I still need to see what these are going to look like at night, though

WT,

Those look pretty reasonable! I will admit, what I'm using is 200% overkill for what I'm using them for. The lights I'm using are designed to be run 24 hr on a 24v system on frac pumps and other stimulation equipment. But since they've been sitting in the tool box for a couple years, I'm going to put them to use!

Report back, let us know how your lights turn out, I have a 12v light addiction. You can never have enough light!

Ceiling insulation was finished early! Just picked it up. Ordered cut to size, ready to install! Should be wrapped up with insulating the trailer tomorrow! Now the question is, what are you guys doing for the floor? Just a stain or varnish? The thought of a cheap hardwood has come to mind.....

Got the ceiling insulated today, also finished adding exterior lights. I plan to put these on a relay to be back up lights as well as on a switch.

I like the positioning of the lights. And if hooked to one switch, you sure could see what is outside when things go bump in the night. And boy is that a big trailer. Nice.

Progress report with some real progress! Ceiling insulation and ceiling panels will be done tomorrow! Cutting the hole for the vent when it's offset will seriously test your math skills!
