This is a good example of that concept: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=60804

Prem: I checked with a local spray foam contractor a few weeks ago. Quoted $1,100 Cdn to do the trailer (to approx 1" depth). They told me I would have to trim the excess off the ribs AND they wanted me to prime the entire inside surfaces with some special primer beforehand. Also they could not guarantee that there would not be "oil canning". I had to look that term up and when I did, I decided against it. I like the look of the smooth sides - didn't want wrinkles!

Perhaps other spray foam contractors might have more experience spray foaming 0.030 aluminum, dunno.

DIY and save the $.

http://sprayfoamsys.com/store/dow-froth-pak-200-1-75-pcf-346963.html?gclid=CJfL2ojMsMICFXFo7Aodyg0AOw

Tape the ribs. Put cardboard on the floor. Build it up in two layers so it can't warp any skin.

For what it's worth.

I get the impression the spray foam company didn't want to mess with it.

...ditto... I concur ...

insulation see pics of what I did with strapping and fiber-g bats in walls and pink foam board 1" in roof and 1.5" in floor. Its worked well for me for about 3 hundred; toasty; I was cauntious to alleviate as much thermal bridging as possible.

BC Dave, Howdy;

Looked at the album, didn't see any insulation pix. Where do I need to go to see them?

Howdy All;

General question for you foam guys an gals... How do ya trim the excess
off that expands out beyond the ribs of the trailer?

I recently saw one post where a 12v wire cutting fixture was made out of wire, battery cables and a 12v source. The poster was taking about a1/4 inch or so off of Installed foam sheets. If I can find it again I will post the link.

When are we all gonna get some data on your heating requirements.
You are the only one who has mega insulation & freezing weather .......
Waiting on your data - would expect 300- 500 watts to keep you toasty warm at ZERO DEG F
With mine I don't need any heat at 32 - but it's not getting colder here

Soon. Testing got shoved onto the back burner and has not moved forward yet. I have plans for the 5 days before Christmas... no work, work.... just work around home. ;)

one insulation pic on the 2ndpic page; on the end wall the strapping was vertical; as the metal ribs were running horizontal; on the side walls its the opposite with the strapping running horizontal; 1x4 but 2x4 on the bottom 20"; ply over; 3" insulation fit in.

BC Dave, Howdy;

Thanks thought it might have been... is that the regular spun fiber type
of insulation pressed in there?

I'm using two layers of 1" rigid foam insulation (one layer fitted between the 1" metal studs, and the second layer over top of studs and first layer. I'm using R-Max 1", which is rated at R6. It's a little more expensive at $20 per 4x8 sheet. I like it because it has a foil radiant barrier built in on each side.

I'm using spray foam cans to fill the gaps in my moisture barrier...mostly in the corners where the ceiling meets the walls. If I had to do it again, I probably would have a layer of spray foam put in professionally for the layer between the studs, and then use the rigid foam over top of that. Of all the projects I've done on my trailer, installing that first layer of insulation and creating a vapor barrier with tape has been the most time consuming. I never would have guessed that would be the case.

Sorry I don't have a build thread up yet. I plan to post my build thread when I'm all done. That way you all will think I completed the project in one-day instead of a year like it's really taking me :lol:

sorry for the tardy reply;

yes regular batten pink insulation for 2x4 walls so 3.5" thick squished down into the cavity to fit counter to what insulators say, I think I get more insulation value out of that, plus it doesn't move around.

Cheers bc D

Not to be critical, but doesn't the insulation loose some of it's properties when it's compressed (squished)? Like the filling of a
sleeping bag the better the 'loft' the better it works???
