Finally underway with our 7X14 V-nose conversion

The flooring didn't go down as easliy as dipicted on the packaging that click lock system is a bugger! although it did make for some nice tight dirt proof joints.

I tell you, this little angle gauge is worth it's salt when it came time to cut the miters at the v-nose end.

Here's what it looks like with the floor all down. We purposefully chose three different colors to do the floor in.

With the floor finally down we could start playing around with the layout to determine how everything would fit. I did a rough assembly of the bed so we could get a visual on how much space it really took up, later on I would be replacing the corner posts with taller ones to accept the second bed. I bought the bed frames from Ikea they're the TARVA model solid fingerjointed pine, fairly inexpensive after the $20.00 off coupon for creating a family account, lightweight and really comfy.

OK. So first order of business is to build out the wall which my bed frame will be attached to and provide the ability to run some wiring for outlets and reading lights.

This will also provide support for the cubbyholes where the outlets will be installed later.

Well I'm under a little diress, my wife had already booked a campsite!!

BTW this all took place last week. I didn't have any free time to get the journal going with the deadline looming. Sheesh! I was working on this thing every night after work.

The lights are cheap under cabinet leds that just plug in, I have an outlet installed behind the wall so whenever they go out I can unplug it and plug in a new one

Both sides of the top and bottom cubbyholes have outlets mounted in them, it might be overkill but at only $1.50 an outlet why not? with all the electronics everyone carries these days it's nice to have an outlet on your side of the bed.

With the front wall up I could begin assembly of the two Ikea beds.

I bought two Ikea Tarva https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S19019491/ bedframes for a $130 bucks a piece when they were on sale


Remade the corner posts so that I could join them as bunk beds (they don't come that way naturally)

New posts cut.

Here I am laying out the peg holes to drill in the new pieces.

Buying and using the bedframes turned our to be less expensive and less time consuming compared to purchasing all of the individual materials and building from scratch.

The completed installation of the bed frames.

I attached them permanently to the cubby and side wall.

The lower bed is raised 12 inches off the floor for storage and although it looks kinda close to the ceiling on the upper bunk
the is actually a good amount of space to roll around and prop yourself up.
