Your trailer: Your mission creeps me out.

Not Arnold: Dude! It's my neighbor's attack motorcycle.

Are we camping/living for peace of mind or to impress the neighbors with size and quantity? If it's the latter, my 35 ft., dual fuel, 4 MPG bus was "the bomb" with 150 pounds of batteries, 300 watts of solar, 72 gallons of water, 33 gallons of black water, 33 gallons of gray water, 200 gallons of propane (carburation fuel) and 66 gallons of gasoline. 9,000 lbs. on the front axle, 13,000 lbs. on the rear axle. That was so OVER THE TOP that I danced a jig the day I sold it. I'm still dancing.

That's what you call "getting it." :applause: :applause: :applause:

Jim,

Here's one for you:

:thumbsup: http://www.lwgear.com/lightweight-backpacking.html

While section-hiking the PCT, my son and I met this guy. He was thru-hiking the the trail from Mexico to Canada. His 3,000 cubic inch, mesh backpack weighed 15 oz. He turned me on to basic minimalism after I got this video he told me about. (Had to go to REI in Seattle to find it. Now he has this website.)

Oh ya, back in the day, just a short 15-20 or so years ago, I used to carry my cargo on my back to fish high country rivers and lakes. I got to where I could go for a few days to a short week with 20-25 pounds including everything I "needed," plus some fishing gear and luxury items. I remember counting ounces, and it seemed silly, but after reducing a few ounces, or even pounds, on every item in the pack, the difference was night and day. Things like down and aluminum replaced synthetic and steel. Very light on liquid fuels, no liquid foods.

I've tried to do that a little bit in my CT. Hence the nylon "cabinets" instead of wood. No water storage. Light lawn chairs. No cast iron. ( :shock: ) No sub-floor. One battery. No generator. My Dickinson is light. Yep, lighter is better when you can do it.

:ok:
No cast iron.

:frightened: I saw a teardrop at a gathering tip straight up when unhitched. Big cast iron collection in the galley. Negative tongue weight NG!

I sold the holy grail (my cast iron) and switched to hard anodized (inert garnet dust embedded) aluminum: 12" Dutch oven and 10" frying pan with tall sides. Big weight reduction. No hassles cleaning. All good.

Howdy All;

I'm presently getting a a small amount of gear together to fit
in my Fishpond Wildhorse fishing vest/backpack about 1340 cu.in.
So I can hike into the Gila Nat'l Forest to find some Gila trouts this
spring and Summer. Use the CT as a base camp. So far have the cook
set, sleeping bag, Tyvek ground cloth and a self inflating sleep pad.
Next is a silnylon tarp and some 550 cord. So far the pack with the fishing
gear outweighs the rest.

Hankaye, sounds like a dream come true. Do not forget the camera so you can share the experience with us.

Hank,

Lynne Wheldon used to make lightweight backpacking gear for sale. No more. Try GoLite brand, often on REI.com and Campmor.com. Also, if you take only freeze-dried food, all you need is an ultralight teakettle for cookware: http://casanovasadventures.com/catalog/camp/p1230.htm#.VJ4gXAgJ4

Prem, Howdy;

Already have a cook set, one of these;
http://gsioutdoors.com/products/pdp/pin ... p_cookware
Needed the second set of bowls for my pooch Rascal. To heat things up
I've got;
http://www.ebay.com/itm/221147751428?ss ... 1586.l2649
For sleeping I've got one of these'
http://www.amazon.com/Military-Outdoor- ... 41&sr=1-14
which will rest on top of;
http://www.campmor.com/Product___40057 (bought one on evil-bay for $45.00 in like new condition),
which will be on top of;
Solo Tyvek Ground Cloth 2.5 ft. X 7 ft.
All to be covered by the following , to be acquired in the next few months...
http://www.backcountry.com/rab-siltarp2 ... -OV-ONESIZ
For extra fresh, clean water;
http://www.rei.com/product/837824/sawye ... ilter-plus
so I can get to here; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wTltt3a-Ok
if the Stream is open for fishing... if not there are a few more in the area that normally are.
There are a few more items, freeze dried food and cordage, but all-in-all very packable, and manageable for 2 or 3 day hikes.

Hank,

Wow. You've definitely got it all dialed in!

...and you're talking Jim's language. :yes:

I like hexamine tablets over alcohol for cooking. No spill. No fuel bottle. 2 square tabs will boil that tea kettle in 2 minutes. (Or 3 of the smaller, round tabs.)

Yup. 8) GSI stuff is really good! I've owned all their Dutch ovens. Sold the 10" to a friend here on the forum and the 14" to another camping buddy and kept the 12" because it holds just the right amount of food for potlucks at gatherings. (But it also makes me an apostate/gentile when the cast iron folks have a potluck. :Oh Brother: )

http://www.sunnysports.com has good prices. :thumbsup:
