That Scout is AWSOME. Liquid cooled, really nice cylinders and heads. It's only like 750 or so, but it gets down the road. The new Indians are Polaris made. I've got a 99 Chief with S&S motor that was made in Kings Mountain, NC. It's a real Indian, before the corporate money. And it's all dressed out with leather bags and fringe everywhere. Had it 17 yrs, just turned 17,000 miles. People get all crazy when they see it. It's a cool ride, but not even close to the little red rocket Street Glide. It's scary powerful. Wants to shake your teeth loose at idle or stoplights. But crack that throttle and it's pure power, 800 lbs getting sideways and rattlin' the windows in the next county. Too much fun.
The Scout is more like a really nice Sportster, probably not enough bike for a full grown man, but for the ol' lady, or a teenager, really sweet.

Will edit in a bit. Recent. That's it.
Ok That's it for the electrical. Tidied every thing up a bit. Big yellow wire acts as harness support and provides stability to it all. Just worked out that way.

So I really needed that DC buss after all.

So only now do I feel pretty good about it all as the lights are bright and the water pump works 100% of the time. Even if you do the river dance in there. :)

I'm going to take a much needed financial break from it all as well as a week to figure out a few more things.

Need to fish and boat some to decompress.

Thought these guys were anchored up and was going to fish there bye catch slick on Saturday. Had to get out of the way!
This was a trip to relax a bit. Twenty miles out and the engine started to act up so we boogied in. Only two barracuda and a very small Mahi that shook off.
Florida fun in the sun.
Gotta get away from it all some times.

Mcdave I think ridding those Montana roads would be awesome. I would need a duel sport KTM though cause I would want to hit the off road too. :D

Ride on Mcdave. Too hot to ride down here now.

Hey Tommy,
We are heading to the Beartooth mountains for a Rally Thurs. pm. Poker runs on Fri. and Sat., Iron Horse Rodeo Sunday.
I've been really trying to hammer out this trailer, but the going is slow. Not sure if I can get it ready in time, but I'm no quitter. I've got LOTS of pics and will put a journal together at some point. I'll try to get some Rally and Rodeo pics, but somethings you just don't want any evidence of. If I can "keep it clean", I'll share.
Power situation looks GREAT. I'm real proud of the way you handled it. You're gonna be so damn smart by the time this is said and done, I don't know if we'll be able to stand ya'.
You're doin all the good, Brother.
Gotta run now, LOTS to do.

Hello again
So I would like to maybe install that vent with fan in the ceiling.

question #1. They range from 45-140 dollars depending on brand. Maxx-Air looks the best. Manual crank with cover. $133.00 or so
Hengs is $40.00 dollars but what does that get you?

question #2. From what I can tell they all will fit in a 14x14 hole. Can I just cut that in my roof and then putty/screw/silicone in place? Is it so heavy that I need a square frame/bracket underneath for support? I envision this sagging a bit but have no idea.

It appears from a video that there is a robust wood frame for support that the fan screws into. Makes sense but I will have to measure and see if it will fit here. I have that wood strip running front to back that may hinder things and then there is a riveted seem that also runs front to back. Cant cut that and don't know what that thin wood strip is hiding.

Needs to go to the right of the 2x4 and between those two metal roof supports but not too close to that seem. Is his possible?

The MaxxFan installs into a standard RV roof opening of 14 by 14 inches.
To determine if your roof opening is correctly sized, simply remove the interior ceiling garnish trim ring of
your existing roof vent and measure the ceiling opening or verify the opening is large enough by sliding the
MaxxFan interior Garnish trim ring into the opening.
The MaxxFan is designed for a minimum roof thickness of 2 inches to a maximum of 6 1/2 inches. If your
roof thickness is less than 2 inches, build additional thickness at the ceiling opening using wood or other
suitable material.
The MaxxFan requires a minimum 12 Volt DC, 5 amp service. Confirm that the circuit you intend to use will
accommodate the additional load. Use the proper gauge stranded wire for electrical connections.

Hmmmm, found that tidbit. Not sure about this now.

Will that slight slope mess things up even if I do construct a frame? It will not be centered either and I'm not sure about this at all. I will wait for some advice here or just pass on the fan all together. Not sure about cutting such a big hole in the roof.

Hey Tommy,
I'm not sure about all the fans, but the one I put in wasn't much heavier that your normal vent. The wood frame serves two purposes. 1) something for the screws from the roof side to bite into and 2) act as a spacer to resemble the roof spars and keep everything even when you put the lower trim ring on. As far as weight, its not really much more than a couple pounds. I cut hole 14x14, butyl tape, screw it down, then the lap sealant. Easy peasy, Lemon squeazy. I told you about the Heng"s combo fan/light/vent I installed and I must say it works good for my purpose which is to exhaust bathroom of steam and other "gasses". You also get the light from the "skylight" and at night the lights work fine. My only complaint so far is the quality of the lid or "skylight". It is so thin and brittle that I cracked it while I was installing it. :x I used some super glue inside and out and so far no leaks, but damn...
Glad to see you are back at it, I'll check back soon ....

McDave

PS. "Any hole is a big hole... if it leaks." Just sayin' ;)

Ok its the next morning.
yup. that's going to be it. I will remake the box fresh stained 2x4. I will reuse the 2x2 rails, just stain. Anchor to frame with L brackets.

It protrudes a lot but my head does not hit the box. It will not be pretty but I will see what I can do. Hope it doesn't suck up my wife's hair.
Yes Mcdave I did read about the fragility of the Hengs lid. It was recommended to go Maxx-Air but what a price diff. However any leak is critical. Maxx-Air for me.

Thanks again Mcdave. If you didn't respond like you do I would be weeks behind!
Still wanna coat that roof.

I put in one of the Maxxair Fans. I really like it. On high (900CFM), it will pull a breeze through the windows.. Just make sure it is not on high when you flush that toilet if you have all the windows closed up. It will pull some foul air up for sure.. You should be fine if you have a good size window open... the air will take the path of least resistance.

WOW, it will be here today. They sent it fed-ex.

I will have work to do.

Thanks flyboy for the info. I had heard that you will only do that once. :D I got the call that our riding spot is AWESOME right now. It should hold up to some rain. I am getting over a bad cold and threw my back out coughing too so I will not be riding this weekend but if you are ever interested in 2-3 hours of a fun ride/work out locally let me know. Right now there are three of us left. Older guys. Both ride 450s. start around 8-830, done by 10-11 depending on the heat.
I will not pester you about it though. Bring a friend if you want. Let me know or not.
