brand new Haulmark Rustbox

Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Postby vreihen » Wed Dec 28, 2011 11:20 am

FWIW, I have seen factory pictures from manufacturers who leave completed bare frames outside until someone orders a trailer. Not exactly confidence-inspiring, but it seems to be a common practice. With the rain that we've had here in the northeast all year, I could see how the metal got rusty in McAdoo, PA.....

Ok so...they finally got back to me....Haulmark is building me a new trailer and delivering it to my house and then picking up the rusted one..they said that they will build it asap..the warranty/service representative assured me that this one will be built with full quality control..very happy that they are doing the right thing and standing by their product and service..lets see how long it takes to be built..first thing i am doing when the trailer gets delivered is ripping down every wall....so once again..i am patiently awaiting the arrival of my trailer...hope to start a build thread soon..

Just when I had given up on people doing the right thing this comes as good news.
the reason I had given up was, someone stole the battery out of my friends car last night.
they are trying to get by on a very small pension and SS after her husband died from cancer they are struggling just to make ends meet.
I was ready to make a donation to a local charity but instead I bought them a new battery.

You might ask them to leave the walls off so you can do your thing. Easier for them, easier for you.

Cheers,

Gus

Leaving the inside walls off would be a good test. Looking at how small the stud welds were and how thin the outside sheets are, I was not going to drive mine anywhere without the support of the plywood inside...

My Featherlite car hauler has aluminum "hat" studs and no interior plywood or other sheeting. I wouldn't sweat dragging a steel trailer around empty without interior wood.....

Like digitek718 I have some rust on a 2 week old Haulmark however not as much rust as that yet. However have bare metal so only time before it rusts like that. I had not seen this thread before I decided to buy a 7 x 16 transport from them. I live near Phila PA so picked it up in McAdoo, PA 18237 to save the shipping price. I did not get under it while there. I got under it while installing a winch a week after I got it. Bare metal is a huge concern - now I also have some pros guys near me concerned about the welds. I will post some photos. Is digitek718 still here and able to update us on what Haulmark did? I have submitted a warranty claim. I will now upload photos.

Here is the album I just posted: gallery/album.php?album_id=3463

And note, these are not images of the same area. I went down both sides and took different images. if was just one area I would address and take care of it but the whole thing is like this and this is just what I can see. Be sure to look at all three pages of images.

Thanks,
Brian

digitek718 wrote:So I decided to remove my luan sidewalls in preperation for electric and insulation and I am horrified at whats underneath. Every single beam is completely rusted..some of them are bent..It looks like the metal studs they used to build my trailer have been sitting outside bare for YEARS!!!! I ordered from the factory because I wanted brand new..Is this a common find?? As soon as I figure out how to post pics I will show you what I am talking about...

I just opened the walls of my Haulmark Trailer the other day.
There was rust on mine also. I put a youtube video out shortly
after I bought my trailer. I wanted to let others know that
Haulmark is putting out poor quality. And I wanted to take
business away from them. My video has been views over 400 times.
The next trailer I buy will be a Featherlite. My trailer was
built in Ogden Utah by the way Good Luck Rando

Wow..I had heard better things about Haulmark. But after 8 years my cheapo Load Runner doesn't have any rust even close to that, and my studs were never painted. Your frame was clearly left out in the weather for months before it was covered. At least they're fixing it, but I won't be looking for a Haulmark for my next trailer!

I apologize for the late reply..its unfortunate to hear about your rust issues..after sending pics of the rusted trailer to Haulmark, they built me a completely different trailer and delivered it to my house and took the old one away..the process took about a month I would say..the new trailer was built much better..I'm happy that they did not give me any hassles with the warranty claim but I do wish they got it right the first time..good luck I'm sure it will all work out

I must say I am not impressed with the quality of welds, some of those are beginner mistakes, burn through, lack of fusion... as to paint problems with out disassembling you can not get to much of it. For it to rust in Utah takes talent, or the rust which could not form in Utah...
