Torrys,
Nice setup! I will be doing the same thing on my tongue. I picked up a 4'x4' 1/4" thick piece of diamond plate for $20 at the local scrap yard. I will be putting my battery there too. I did a basic build at first last year then went camping for 8 days. Really glad I did. The trip showed me the changes I needed. I have been working on it on weekends off and on for almost a year now. Getting closer to being finished every day. My vision is finally coming together. :woohoo: Hope yours does the same.

I went out on the web and found it. Camp Chef
http://www.campchef.com/stoves/outdoor-camp-oven.html

Amazon has them for about $168. And I found they have an oven version only at $97. That might be interesting enough to consider.

Torry, let us know how the oven works out for you.

Yeah near identical as that one, I bought mine locally and it had never been used for $150, but was missing the proprietary reg setup similar to coleman that would take the small bottles. For my purposes it wouldn't have been used regardless. Sale price looks good

Thanks, yeah I like your approach to try it out and change as you go.
I am afraid if I do too much now it may be inadequate or a waste of time/money if it has to be redone.

I do have a few ideas and another reason I am so glad I was pointed to this site. So many have shared their ideas and visions and makes it easier to take that and build with a tad more confidence, kinda like having a blueprint. The other thing is time, I am slow and my family is noticing my absence on some quality days where I am working on trailer stuff. So with kids at home still...need to balance it all out.

Thank you. It or its smaller "brother" is going on my wish list of "things to do to the future CT or to get for it." I have never seen one of these before

I own one of the camp stove/ovens and LOVE it!! The first one I ordered from Amazon had a small flaw (I can't recall specifics) and after using it I emailed Amazon and they replaced for free. We make gourmet meals and love this. I even make cinnamon rolls in the morning. One tip is to "flip" more than you would in a regular oven. You can buy pan sets on Amazon that fit and work great. With my cinnamon and crescent rolls I pull them out and flip them twice during cooking and they turn out awesome!!

torry's,

I am way behind with posting to my build page. Vacation coming up is more important than reducing all the pics to get them on here. I did get my propane mounted like yours. I also installed a crossmember under the tanks for strength. After I got it all done I did not like the excess movement from front to back. It seem unsteady for my taste. I took a piece of angle aluminum and drilled a hole in one end that would slip over the center tank secure anchor all-thread. I attached a bracket to the wall stud where it would be a couple of inches below the bracket. Then I slid the angle aluminum over the all thread and attached it to the bracket that is attached to the wall stud. It minimized the movement and it does not interfer with changing the tanks out. I will post pics in a couple of week when we get back. A picture better describes what I did.

Hmm... you might have heard of Harley widows, the wives that don't ever see their husband because they are always out riding. Well mine has been a CT widow for the past year. I don't know, she might actually have enjoyed the peace and quiet of not having me in the house on the weekends. We are way into the empty nest and enjoying every minute. You could tell the Mrs. that the more work you get done on the CT the faster you'll get done so "the whole family" can enjoy it. Stress the family thing really hard. You might throw in how much the kids will like getting out and enjoying camping in it. Wives are suckers for things like that. Or you could turn it into a family project!! Of course if she catches on to your scheme you could end up in the dog house. Look at it this way, this could give you more time to work on the CT!! Any way you go it could be a win win in the name of CT build progress. I now throw in my disclaimer on the possible divorce outcome and years of child support which could lead to having to live out of the same CT for the next 18+ years.

Keep up the good work and the ideas flowing!!

Stove?

Postby noseoil » Tue Aug 05, 2014 11:48 pm

I've been looking at one of these stove-oven combos for a little while. Does anyone have any feedback on them after using one for a longer time? I like the size, shape & features, but I'm wondering about durability, general build quality (for a very cheap price) and how well they function for cooking & baking. Do the burners turn down low enough? Is the oven heat fairly consistent?

Should I be looking at a better quality stove (more expensive, like the Coleman, about $60.00 more), or will this one work just as well for regular traveling & camping?
