Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

I'm 100% positive this could be a nice trailer cooling system if someone
Wanted to play around and experiment a little bit back and forth.

Some small misters, maybe on a timer or temp controller
Water can remove a tremendous amount of heat from a trailer or RV
Don't think you gotta worry about flooding your camp site.

I'm finishing the under body rubber coating now, i used about 10 cans $8 each under the trailer
For all the metal ribs, rails & axels.

Next I'm gonna try a small test patch of rubber underbody coating on the silver roof "painted white" of course.
The coating says it can be painted !!
To see what kind of effect that may have.
I was not very happy with the white roof coating ..... It collected mega dirt in no time at all.

Surprising news

Today I received an e mail from my registration agent that my plates from Maine are in the mail - YAHOO

I also found out you can do cars & trucks also

While there is a tread written by Len - about EASY MAINE trailer registration, I did not find it that easy.
When I called the DMV in Maine I got a lecture from Denis that this may not be ( kosher )
When I contacted some Maine Agents I was also told it was not ( kosher - especially in California )
And was told straight out - no can do BRO :x :x :x call me when you move to another state.
Maine sent out a stack of paper work & tax filing stuff saying 5% tax was due if used for personal use.
It was all very confusing.

While I asked Len to clarify this - he never posted a response to my calif specific question.

Don't worry guys !!

I'm still on my MED's - just kidding , not sucking down any pills yet "thank god"
But maybe soon if I don't finish trailer & get on diet plan.

But I gotta keep adding some bling to use all that solar power 8) 8) 8) 8)
And don't wanna make it easy for someone to build trailer with more bling after I finish.
I'm hoping to start new fad - like tiny house trailers.

OOPS Big problem when dry fitting the shower pan

Thats right, I gotta get the saw saw out to cut out the pesky tongue cross beam right under the shower drain,
what do you need that for anyway   - damn I hate when that happens. :x :x

Just kidding, none of you guys thought I was really gonna do that :D :D :D SUCKERS !!!

photo 3-1.JPG

Above is the solution to the standard 2" shower drain configuration.

photo 4.JPG
photo 4.JPG (75.82 KiB) Viewed 2538 times

This is a 1.5" reducer & then a second reducer to allow a 1.25" metal standard sink drain to be installed,
giving me just enough room to clear the cross member by what old carpenters refer to as a C*#^t's hair
I might even have to notch the wall studs a little bit to get that much - clearance.
Good thing there is no building inspector in the house.

I found this shower pan for only $112 on sale and its SUPER light 2" foam on the under side.
this time I will most like not install the glass tiles, at least not to start with.
I will use the short front wall for my shower fixtures & will use the short right side wall for some of my 12v electric switches
you got it.... OTTCT will have a fully electrified shower wall ..... NOW he is really nuts -O- off the rails.
BTW - I was thinking of using diamond plate for the shower walls.
BUT if you "Chicken Little's" are worried I can put in a switch to shut off the power - disconnect the battery - during shower time.

The Jedi plumbing master has landed

At the bottom most picture it can be seen that the shower pan sits on-top of 1.5" of Dow blue board foam ,
the shower will also have 3" foam on the walls, so I will be ready for hot showers at ice station zebra.
The bottom of the pan has additional 2" of foam So that is 3.5" total foam under my shower.
You won't find that in your standard RV.

pan.JPG
pan.JPG (96.43 KiB) Viewed 2487 times

Click on the "ABOVE" picture to see the blue board, to this date I have not seen a cargo trailer with foam on-top of the 3/4" plywood,
although I have myself put it under the trailer - where it was not effective due to thermal bridging.

drain.JPG
drain.JPG (141.67 KiB) Viewed 2487 times

Now I have enough room to install a 1.5" black plastic drain or a 1.25 silver metal sink drain

I do have to say the shower pan is bigger then expected.

I like the placement of that shower stall and am planning on doing the same but can't decide what size to go for and have questions about how to seal the front as they only have an overlap lip on the back edge

I like the build you are doing :applause:
looking in as many places as possible

Hi Poordad

I would need to see a picture of your shower pan first. But you should have a lip on 2-3 sides
In my case I need a jumbo size shower - one reason I'm building trailer.

On the good news my Maine trailer plates showed up today :D :D :D :D
RIGHT ON THE PLATE IS SAYS 2-27-23 - good for ten years
They did mess up the name a little - will see what happens ??
I guess they don't take the paperwork that exact ?? Or the DMV - don't really care
Since its KaChing in their pocket :D :D

It's 95 now daily , trying to get 1 layer insulation done & test my theory
Pictures to follow soon

Ok it's time to play hardball , it's hotter then hell AKA in Furnace Creek in Calif :x :x :x
No offense to the nice folks there who love a good 130 deg heat wave in Furnace Creek

So I have decided to do some desperate measures, this morning I taped 1/2 foam
Insulation on top of the trailer roof, except for the 6" rounding over!!
Because i'm not sure how hard it would be to get the tape off ? :x :x :x

Any bets on what my roof temp probe will be today, without the foam it would hit 150 easy

Jerry

Update , now at 12 noon it's about 100 outside, 100 inside the trailer & only 110 on the roof

Update , now at 4 pm it's about 95 outside , 102 inside the trailer & only max 118 on the roof,
Remember before when it was 85 deg - the roof hit 135 easy - so today it would have hit 155 .

Update , now 8 pm , it's about 80 deg outside, inside trailer it's 87 with doors wide open, roof temp is 92 deg.
So far the roof has heated up slower & is cooling down slower also

Once the insulation is done I'll post more test data !!

The first layer of insulation is almost done, picture is posted on my blog.

http://overthetopcargotrailer.blogspot.com/

Stay tuned after some well deserved rest from the blazing 103 deg F California heat, the 2nd layer of insulation is still coming. As I stated the goal is to be able to cool trailer in 100 deg F with only a small 5,000 Btu window unit. That translates to about 600 watts for the small ac unit. This should be child's play for the 2,000+ watt solar system that is also coming.

Heating should be so efficient that no heat is required down to 10 deg F.  Much of the heat will be supplied by body heat & the interior appliances. The trailer can also be heated with the 180,000 Btu water heater and the almost 80 gallons of water that can be heated to 120 deg in about 20 minutes. That heat then would slowly filter into the inside to heat the trailer. Last time I tested this it took almost 3 days for the water to get back to 50 deg. Hydronic heat works great !!

Today my first AC test was a grand slam, it was 101 outside & inside never over 81 deg :D :D :D :D , my cargo door is still uninsulated as are all the wall studs and 20% of the ceiling. The inside is mostly empty & I had myself, a big fan , tv and DVR running - that's about 150 watts worth of heat load all being cooled by 500 watt ac unit. With the trailer loaded & the other 50% insulation installed I should be able to keep interior at hopefully 70 deg.

Today my 2nd AC test was a grand slam also, it was 96 outside & inside never over 78 deg :D :D :D :D , my cargo door is now insulated as are all the wall studs but not the last 20% of the ceiling.

Without me in the trailer & only the fan running temp was around 70 deg !!
So you can see that warm body & a few appliances can quickly kill the AC by 8 degrees.

The inside is still mostly empty & I had myself, a big fan , tv and DVR running - that's about 150 watts worth of heat load all being cooled by 500 watt ac unit. With the trailer loaded & the other 50% insulation installed I should be able to keep interior at hopefully 70 deg.

PS today a BUNCH OF MY GOODIES ARRIVED , look a few posts above you can see what they are
