Probably last longer too.

I use black rubber hose. I had lots of old ones.

Good Morning! Up and at it early. Home depot opens @7 am.
Pictures to follow.
Was just ready to paint tube and it rolled off the table and shattered the cap end. :x :x Broke like an egg shell. $19.00 dollars and a trip across town and I made it right. Lost time.

The tube is painted gray. The deck looks really good sanded and coated with Thompsons. The Aluminum angle cradling the tube with stainless hardware will insure longevity and further strengthens the set up.

All I have to do is screw the deck down and then secure the deck to the tube as we discussed. ( Hank, Padilian ). I was thinking Either the threaded rod bent to a U-bolt like you guys said or stout flat strap, thick 1 inch wide or so. Bent over the top of the wood and down to the aluminum struts, some how. But this may have complications in itself. Anyway it goes I will be done with it by noon I hope.

Thank you for the advice guys. Pictures soon!

Sorry about that cap. I hate it when that stuff happens. I do stuff like that all the time right in the middle of working on things. I think I saw you yesterday about 9AM turning onto Emerson from Minton. I was heading out myself.

I am looking forward to the pics. I think either way you go (Ubolts or strap) will work fine. That tube will not be under much force to move around. It is relatively light and the side forces to roll off are going to be very small. Same with the lift from oncoming air going down the road. If you use the strap, you could take some of the 1'in pine and using the pipe as a template, cut slightly less than a half circle and butt it up to the pipe giving you a flat edge to put the strap on and it will also serve as a wedge to prevent any rolling. Just use some liquid nails or some similar exterior epoxy to adhere the wood to the pipe.

Ok, time for a beer break. Ben drinkin since 8 am. Better eat something!

Seriously, Almost there! Now I will secure the deck. Listen, I never give advice. But, if you have fender wells like I do, take advantage of this space like I did. Even if you don't install a missile launcher/slinky holder, this deck can hold a variety of things. I know you all have need for extra storage.

Don cant wait. Working hard to finish. Yes I was going to Home Depot.

Thanks all!

Back in an hour or so.

That's it done. No need for U-bolts or straps. I assembled it all and then attempted to pull the thing out and it would not budge.
However I still used four deck screws to screw the deck directly into the pipe ends. I pre drilled, and :worship: the pipe would not crack. Looks good. Solid enough for what I need.

Tommy B. Howdy;

Agree, it looks good and functional. Give it another pull check after you've had it on the road a time or 2
just to be sure the road vibs haven't loosened it up some.

:applause:
Ya know Tommy, that is very similar in design to the universal type running boards I had on a Blazer years ago.
And you are right about the useable space fore and aft of the fender, plus I can't tell you how many times I have smashed my knee into those fenders! I know they are there but I smash em' anyways.
You could gain a considerable amount of storage with those.
Very Well Done, Sir.

Thanks everybody for the praise. Maybe It will inspire some of you lurkers. :D

That was a real challenge. The Last big one. For now anyway.

Planning on a shake down this weekend. The last 4 miles or so going in to the camp site is washboard, gravel and ruts this time of year. They will grade it just before hunting season. So this will be a good test of things. You bet I will go over my new baby upon arrival.
:worship: all goes well.

Cant wait to breath the fall air on Saturday. Feel that cool dry air. My KTM is feeling frisky and so am I!

Gotta get away.

Don, thanks will do. I am sure the local spot will be dry enough before then though and may be you can get away four 2-3 hours one morning.
We need help burning in the single track as I am sure its over grown now. I will let you know.

See you on the trail soon.

Have fun Tommy. If you happen to see that gal on the horse, give her a wink and a nod for me. But don't tell her where I am. I might know her mom. .. :o ...just sayin'..
Looking forward to a full report on all systems and some tasty pics.
You did real good. ...
