I got the D-rings cut in and the holes drilled. I just need to pick up some screws and washers and have some help up top holding screws while I tighten below. I did the same for the Wheel chock... I'll get that done Saturday AM before I install the awning....

McDave, see the Amazon link below. I had not heard of Aleko before, nor were there many reviews . I think they are a big Home Awning and etc.. place just getting into RV's. In any case, the price was good, delivered to the house free. I bought it on Amazon, so if I don't like it, it will be sent back... Not installed yet, but the Awning material, Awning roller drum, hardware and all look very robust. Very nice finish also. The install instructions look poor, but I think I can figure this out. I'll let you know how it goes Saturday when I install.

I've been looking at those for a while. Could'nt find any reviews either, so I was waiting for you to buy one. The price is right, Quality?
The arms are included, right?
Looking forward to Sat. pics.

McDave

PS. Did you used to have a Honda Odyssey?

Thanks for letting me be the Guinea Pig. ;) ;)

The Quality looks good. Very nice PVC Awning materiel. All solid Aluminum Arms and Drum. The only thing that would make these bad would be the Quality of the Awning Material and the Spring Mechanism inside the drum. Everything else looks like any other Aluminum Retractable Awning I've ever seen. I'll let you know how the Spring Tensions when I install.

I've never had a Honda Odyssey?? Why would you ask that? Just kinda a random question?

I picked up a Mr. Heater tonight on my way home from work. Tommy tells me it is suppose to be 38 deg. F in Ocal NF during our trip next week. That's crazy cold!!!!!

I saw another flboy review on some hi mileage oil. I think he said had a Odessey.
That is a strange random question, though.
Glad to hear it looks like good stuff, I may have to pull the trigger.

Awning is installed. Instructions were worthless. I hate tensioning springs... almost broke my finger when it let go on me and very hard to install solo. But... just a little perseverance and I am done. My plan tomorrow is to get the load balancing hitch on it.

Hey Don,
Dude! That looks amazing. One of sexiest rigs I've seen, anywhere. Inside and out, very tastefully done. Amazing what you can do with 3 colors. White, chrome and black. Classic, elegance through simplicity. Makin' that Ford look good! I mean like Hillbilly Deluxe good ...........(adjust volume to Max.)

So, whadda ya think about the Aleko? Fair value? It looks pretty damn good from here.

So. listen brother, We ain't as young as we used to be. You don't have to be a hero. The next time you need a hand let me know. We're pretty much full on winter around here now. I could stand to get outta here for a while. If you're not in a hurry......... 8) ....
Sweet digs, Mister. ..... :applause: ...

Hi McDave. Thanks for the compliments. That's what I was going for... simple... but nice. Anything beyond that was luck. That video reminded me of growing up. Exactly like that with the trucks and tailgate parties and bonfire's. Some stuff I am not real proud of included.... but I was young and stupid!

On the Aleko... I am not real familiar with all the other brands and this is the first time I have installed.. but at roughly 2/3 the price, I think it is a good value. The awning materiel itself is the same as any other awning. The finish is nice on the arms (painted aluminum). I have seen some built with "heavier" arm parts.. but not sure if that is just "overbuilt".

The awning goes up and down fine like it is suppose to. The one thing that would be a problem, which only time will tell is the clutch and spring in the awning tube itself. It seems to work fine... but that is the heart of it. In this case, I don't know how it is built inside or how others are built. The outsides all look similar.

I honestly think it will be a year or so before I could make a decent comment on quality... it is going to depend on the longevity.. Brand new it seems nice.

The instructions are a different story. Completely inadequate. I have some mechanical abilities so I could sort it out.

If you decide to buy an Aleko.. let me know and I can share some of this installation tips that would make my life easier if I ever installed another one. Right now, if I had to buy another awning, I'd buy this one again because I can't see a huge difference in the others out there and this saved me a few hundred buck easily.

Hey Don,
Yep, I may have had a lapse of judgement, or two back then, myself. But hey, ALL that stuff make us who we are. Here's something....I just saw my first porno the other night. Wow! That's crazy stuff! I can't believe how young I looked! JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING lol..... I was in my mid thirties. Again, just kidding...
But seriously, that is exactly the kind of review I was looking for on the awning. You can never really know about the longevity and performance in the field, stuff happens. But I know you can tell just by feel and smell and fit and finish if it is quality or crap. Thanks for the review, I'm wantin to order one, but I probably wouldn't be able to mount it till spring anyway, so there is really no rush. But boy are they nice to have.
One thing I have heard from RV owners, if you are leaving the camp for the day, roll her up. Sudden wind storms can just beat the hell out the arms and frame. If you see a twister comin' , pack it in if you can. Also, always check and double check the retaining locks. If it decides to deploy while in transit at speed, it's gonna be ugly.
Alright, take a day off, Don. You have earned it. I'll check you later.
