Converting Cargo Trailers into TTTs

Not sure where I fit in....

Postby mj1angier » Tue May 18, 2010 3:12 pm

But here looks like a good spot.

I have a S250 shelter that I got a bout 2 years ago. It was used by the army as a comm. unit. I was made to fit in the back of a Hummer or a pick up. I fitted it into a trailer to pull behind my SUV. It works great for me, the wife and dog.

This is it when I picked it up at Ft. Bragg

Added a new a/c and wider bunks

6" foam beds and new paint

Painted and put on trailer, 2 battries and solar cells

Set up at spring campout

It is still a work in progress, but is useable as it is.

Not to bad behind the SUV. Pulls better than the boat beside it.

It fits in here fine. And I bet that thing is bomb-proof too! Definitely unique.

cool; in all seriousness is it bullet proof?

is it insulated?

painted in dessert camo; I likey.

why is the air con outer shelf sticking out so far?

AND did you design that outdoor shower??? Great!

Is the roof (must be) made of heavy duty sheething and reinforcement ...

and what are those 3 verticle strips to the left of the air con???

Thanks for all the replies folks.

It weighs about 1500 lbs empty and about 18-1900 full of all my junk.
Not bullet proof- the walls and roof are alum. sheets that have a inch of foam in them. They have alum. ribs every 18" that are very strong.

The shelter came with a a/c- heat unit that was massive- weighs about 200lb- but it was a 240 unit. So I pulled it out and put in the Walmart $98 window unit.

The shower and inclosure were my wife's only request. I saw the solar camp showers just made my own. We have a porta-potty that can be used in the enclosure also.

The "strips" are extra bulbs for the lights. The army had them there when I got it, but the light fixtures were gone. I picked up 2 at Home Depot that uses the same bulbs.

When I got the shelter, it had just cam back from the middle east. So it had the dessert paint job, but not all of it was painted that color.

Plus the trailer I got off Craig's list was blue.

So I gave it a shot of oil based pait that was close to the tan color. I had paint left over so I did the propane tank and some ammo cans to match.

I had to put stiffer spring under the trailer- weight of shelter had trailer bed sitting on the axle- add better tires, welded up a lift up set of stairs and battery holders on the front

thanks for all the detail;

nice job on the shower; simple & effective; did you use PVC? or is that galvanized black pipe? What & how are the wall attachments for the shower rods connected?

aluminum construction is an expensive material;.... so if you dont mind sharing; how much was the camper unit?
