After looking at all your nice conversions on here I have made the decision that a cargo trailer is my best option for my needs. If I could make up my mind on size between a V nosed 6x12 or 7x14 I would be ready to order one. Is there really that much difference over 1 foot of width and say 700 more lbs adding the tandom pulling wise? So my question really is to you guys that bought 6x12 or 7x14's would you buy the same size again or go up or down a size?

My need for the trailer is basicly a remote hunting camp. Places that allow UTV riding I would take one of those with me so weight wise I would only be hauling a 1000 lb UTV and camping gear but most places were I go would be minus the utv and only be hauling camping gear for staying inside the trailer. Now for the big question. Could a 2002 4x4 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder 2.7 auto transmission handle either size trailer if a guy wasn't in any hurry? Thanks.

I have personally witnessed a gentleman towing an 1,100# open-wheel formula race car on a 400# trailer behind a Yugo GV on the highway. It doesn't have the air drag of a CT, but he wasn't struggling to hold speed even with two people in the car. Of course, I suggest that you check your owner's manual for Toyota's recommended tow ratings, and avoid doing something like this:

I think that one factor you will need to consider is brakes. If you go with the tandem, make sure that it doesn't go over the weight limits that require trailer brakes unless you want to also wire your truck with a 7-pin trailer harness and brake controller. In NY State, brakes are required if the trailer weighs more than 1,000# empty or has a MGVW greater than 3,000#. If I recall correctly, surge brakes are not legal in NY, but maybe I'm mistaken. Another thing to consider is maintenance of a second axle, needing to replace two more tires, and of course the toll booth ramifications of a dual-axle trailer if you travel any toll roads or bridges.....

I don't have a Cargo Trailer yet I am going to get a 7X12 single axel.
I want the width as the Vnose gives me and additional 2' or so up front for counter.

Owners manual says can tow it. Like you said though brakes would be best.
Yes the 7 wide would open up many more options inside wouldn't it. Bed sideways leaves much more room. I will probally just go with the 7x14 and forget about the Tacoma. I have another larger TV but was just wanting to use smaller truck because so much nicer to hunt out of. Thanks

Pete I think a 7 wide would be nice. The company I asked about 7 wide single axle were not all that far in price to 7 wide tandem axle. They said because they run specials in 7 wide tandom and didn't have any specials on 7 wide singles. Same company though had the rare 6x14 only 150 more than 6x12 though. Wonder why they don'y sell many 6x14?

What is the name of the cargo trailers and where are they sold?
I like the 7 foot wide but want a 12 foot long instead of a 14 footer.
The extra 2 feet would come in nice I'm sure but I have the layout I like all layed out on paper
but I'm open for a 14 footer if the price was right.
I have pulled travel trailers for years but the CC seems to get my juices flowing.
But at this time while I have the money I am so covered up taking care of two sick people one terminal one not plus the occasionial sick 14 year old dog. that If I got a trailer I'm afriad it would take time from my duites of caring for them.

Thanks for the link.

That mfg. is doing something the rest are not: They measure to the front of the v-nose. Not good. 14-footer is a 12-footer by other manufacturers' standards. And a tandem axle on a 12-footer is overkill for our needs. :thumbdown:

according to the georgia facility, the interior (w/o the v-nose) is 13' 8"and add about 2' 9" for v-nose

Pete the trailer I was looking at are Freedom Trailers. Of course they are in Ga like all the best deals though. Macon Custom Trailers is one of their dealers. Check his inventory and compare the 6x12 to the 6x14 he has in stock. I like the way they are built. Dexter axles, 16 on center wall and floor crossmembers, pressure treated 3/4 floor, LED lights, V-nose, ramp door, and get both RV latch and bar latch on man door. Check out the desciption on those. If your looking to go from 7x12 to a 7x14 you really pick up a good deal. Most the time about $100 difference but have seen it as low as $50.00 difference. I'm thinking that was on the Cardinal Sales site I saw that one.

Prem you think a 6x14 be any noticeable difference pulling than 6x12? I would still like to use my small truck sometimes when not taking anything in trailer except camping gear. Then I set down and draw out bed locations and dang really don't come out the best. That extra 2 foot would make it work so much better. Looks like Cardinal sales has just picked up Covered Wagons. Again in Ga though but only 200.00 diference between 6x12 and 6x14. http://cardinalsales.homestead.com/

Sorry about any confusion caused by my last post. :oops: I had been on the company's website, clicked on 6x14 and was looking at a short, all aluminum, v-nose CT with tandem axles that looked to be 12 ft. long on the sides. (I do like their trailers.)

The extra two feet of trailer isn't going to affect towing much at all. It's going to be a 100 to 200 pounds more weight. Worth it (and worth the $$$) for the extra floor space, IMO.

If I could have gotten a 14 ft. Featherlite with a v-nose and a single axle, instead of a 12 footer, I would have. They don't make them. The extra floor space would be a BIG plus. :thumbsup:
