Window install help??

Postby dog812 » Mon Feb 28, 2011 9:15 pm

So i ordered a small verticle slider window from a trailer place in alberta that had a great price.

It arrived today.. But no trim ring? and i dont see if it did have a trim ring what it would screw in to?

Did they forget the trim ring? or is this a different type of window?

Ill try calling the place tomorrow morning but they are closed right now.

Any help would be great.

I don't have a CT, but I was adamant about getting the trim rings with the windows for my TD. When they came in they were useless for mounting the windows in my 1 1/4" thick walls. I screwed the windows in from the outside, chunked the trim-rings, and trimmed the inside with wood. No big deal. Trim-rings are overrated from my perspective.

I just ordered a CT with windows installed. Was wondering what to do if I add insulation or more paneling . Decided to get the thing with the insulation installed. If I want to add 1/4" tongue and groove later, I'll have the same issue. I guess I'd just add some wood framing around the window on the inside.

hI
From what I gathered here on the site, Look at the enterior of the window, there should be small holes in the frame, that should aid in letting you know if you require a trim ring. That might be why the price was so good. I went to this web site and similar windows do have trim rings. Hope this helps Vintek RV Vintage Trailer Supplies

Well after looking at windows a little more and trim rings.. i have come to the conclusion this one does not use a trim ring..
Sucks.. I guess that is why it was so cheap..
Oh well i am still going to try to make it work. Ill post up what happens this weekend. :worship:

Has anyone seen any examples or instructions how to install windows that dont have trim rings?

Hello
I used stainless steel self tapping screws to the outside flang. first i installed a sheet of 1/2 plywood on the inside between the metel support beams so the screws would have more to hold than just the siding. Then you can trim aroud the inside window . Thats just one way good luck

So my plan is to drill through both and use nut and bolts to hold it all together?
Or will screws do a good enough job of holding it?

Doug every trimring I have seen was screwed to the window part.

the window part had places that the screw, screwed into NOT through the frame of the window.

look real close or take some close up pictures of the window inside frame and maybe we can tell if your windows have the places the screws go.

I would not drill through the window frame just yet.

Hey man.. you can kinda see in the first picture..
it is completely flat till it comes out where the window is held..
I think this window is meant for fiberglass trailers that use a rubber seal witha locking rubber seal ring.
Anyway.. i start the project today.. wish me luck..

My Hehr windows have a narrow slot that goes around the inside that was meant to be screwed into that attaches the trim-ring.

Wish I had a pic...
Good luck!

Glad you got your window installed.

it is nerve wrecking to cut a hole into the side of your trailer.

hard to see if the weep holes can do their job of keeping the water from sweatting and or rain from getting into the trailer.

nice looking job

The weep holes are on the sides as its a side slider window mainly. I am going to drill a hole in the middle bottom.. should work.

Thanks.. it turned out ok.. for a rookie.. a few things i would do different next time.. but not bad for a couple hours work.
the outer screws match the rest of the screws on the trailer so it looks like its supposed to be like that :)
