CT ramp screen door for $15?

Postby vreihen » Sun Mar 27, 2011 7:03 pm

I was browsing a Homier mailing yesterday, and they were selling a home 7' x 8' garage screen door kit with magnetic center closure for $17. The first thought to cross my mind was that it would make a cheap ramp screen door for my race car trailer, which of course would work for anyone else building a CT-based toy hauler. Unfortunately, they were sold out when I went to their web site to order one. :(

I just did a Yahoo search, and found the same type/size of screen door for $14.98 on another web site:

At the price ($20.96 shipped to my door), I just ordered one to see how it will work on my ramp door. Since I can't leave the trailer door open for 20 seconds without swarms of bugs moving in, this is something that could be worth it's weight in gold at home if I can figure out how to pass the ramp door cables through it.....

I would like to know how this works out,I was going to make something like this with some screen I have already bought from lowes.
I was going to have to have it sewn with velcro or figure some way how to attach it to the trailer but this looks better with the magnetic closure in the center.

The package (envelope) arrived on Wednesday. I wasn't expecting much, but wasn't mentally expecting a 25" long roll of mesh in an envelope:

I'll un-bag it later, to see how it mounts and if it can be made to work on the ramp door.....

I bought one also off Ebay new for 20.00 with shipping it said it was 7x8 with a weighted bottom and some type of mounting hardware.
I thought it would look better than trying to make something myself and going and have someone sew it?
I noticed after I went to the taylor made website which I had never been to before I noticed that now when I open my email or other surfing on the web there AD pops up with what I was looking at ?
I know they have spyware that tracks your habits but I haven't noticed this before.?

I had been looking for something like this. I ordered one. Even if I can use the materials and tailor it to fit, twenty bucks and change is pretty reasonable. Many thanks for posting the link. I'll let you know how it works out. Jeff

do you still have this problem?
if so do you have a malware program? I use ad-aware free down loaded from the c-net site
I also use avast free antivirus both programs work very well.

Examining their web site using Google Chrome and the NotScripts extension, they are loading JavaScript from 14 different sites including googleadservices.com. If I had to guess, I'd say that Google set a cookie on your computer and other web sites that also insert Google's scripts (just about everyone these days) are inserting Google's targeted ads based on this.

If you are using Google Chrome as your web browser, NotScripts is a neat little tool for preventing one web site from passing your info to another one. I believe that the Firefox browser equivalent is NoScripts, but there's also AdBlock available which leaves big blank spots on your screen where the ads are supposed to be displayed.

These web browser plugins are great for protecting you from cross-site scripting exploits and keeping ads off your screen.....

I got called into work for a problem yesterday, so I didn't get a chance to try attaching it to the trailer yet. :( I did open the package and un-roll everything, though.

The screen is very light black nylon mesh, even lighter than the last screen tent that I owned. The center, top, and bottom have edging sewn onto them. The two outside wall ends are not edged. There are grommets spaced every 16" (my guestimate) in the top edging, and the kit comes with small screws to use as studs to hang the screen on through the grommet holes. The bottom of the screen has four pieces of 2' (my estimate) 1/2" metal tubing sewn in for weights to keep the screen hanging down. The un-edged sides have 4 velcro tabs each to hold them to the sides of the garage door opening. The magnetic catch in the center is the only disappointment. I was expecting a full length magnetic tape, but it is a simple refrigerator magnet sewn into a piece of nylon that only seals the opening at one point.

For the price, I think that it is worth giving it a shot to see how long it lasts, and of course to figure out how to make a better one if it does fail.....
