Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

Noticed a few trailer threads popping up on here so I figured I'd post some pictures of my new trailer. Keep in mind its a work in progress. I got the trailer about 6 weeks ago. Been working on it the past 3 weeks in my spare time. Plan on building it out like a camper just like my little 6x14 was. The trailer is a 7'x24' + V-nose. It also has an extended tongue so its a little longer then a standard 24'. So far I've insulated it, Installed an extra vent in the front, Installed black, grey and freshwater tanks, Hotwater heater and furnace.. I've got most of the framing done for the cabinets and bathroom. Just waiting on some tank sensors to come in tomorrow so I can plumb all the freshwater and gas lines.. After that going to finish out the cabinets and walls! The trailer weight new was a little more then 3 thousand pounds. I'm trying to keep the weight down since my truck is just a half ton.. Half ton rated to pull 10,600 pounds, but still a half ton.. We took the trailer to Huntsville, TN (5 1/2 Hour drive one way) a couple a weeks ago and with gear and one RZR it pulled great. The plan is to haul 2 RZRs with it. I figure it should weigh around 7k to 7500 Pounds loaded with 2 RZRs once done.. Give or take... Thats pretty dern good for a toy hauler that holds two SxSs

I haven't posted any updates on my trailer.. So I took a few pictures with my cell phone today.. I really wasn't able to work on it much for a few weeks cause of work. But I have had plenty of time the past few days thanks to the weather we had last week.
All the plumbing is done minus hooking up the shower head and sink.. Gas lines are all done minus the stove top. The cabinet is all built so is the doors. All the electrical is done minus hooking up a couple outlets.. Got the shower in and covered the entire bathroom with FRP.. I still have to trim the bathroom and shower.. Wired up my LED lights and installed them.. Also installed mounts for my tv and ran all the wires.. The radio has a DVD player in it. It also can connect to Ipods or usb thumb drives and will display song info on the TV.. I also mounted a couple of speakers under the trailer in boxes. Fridge, Furnace both have been tested and work great.. Now I just have to finish everything up.. The only thing that has me a little messed up is my windows won't be in for a couple of weeks.. Which means I can't install the paneling on the walls till I get those.. I also got my bed/dinette thing in today. It folds up against the wall and lays down into a bed then can be converted into a dinette.. Its pretty sweet.. A little expensive, but I just couldn't see making one this nice for 500 bucks.. I plan on making our fold down bed in the rear of the trailer though.

Way beyond my needs, but very nice! Cant wait to see the finished product.

Very nice work. I like the steel framing a lot. Next time I build one of these, it will be steel studs all the way. I am relearning my hatred for wood, as I build my trailer! Looks like we are on the same page as to equipment installation. I am also using my kitchen cabinets for all my plumbing and electrical. Is that a vent on the cabinet I see in one of the pics? I had pondered installing one, since my water heater and power center are in the same cabinet....Again, looking great. I love watching these come together, whether it's mine, or someone else! lol yeah I know my 7'x24' is a little taboo on a teardrop & tiny trailer site. But really this is the only good forum I found for Cargo trailer conversions. The trailer is a little big, But really all the extra's are packed into a pretty small space. We have two RZRs we need to haul so we need a minimum of an 18.5 garage. If I were to go buy a standard toy hauler with that size garage it would weight 7-8k empty cost 20k used and would be 8'x 30'+ feet long. It would also require a 3/4 or one ton truck to pull it. My trailer LOADED should weigh around 7k cost with everything new around 10k. I can also pull it with my half ton tundra.

Thanks, Yeah I did my first one with 3x4s ripped in half. Its very hard to find straight wood now days. I figured will all the extra bracing wood needed some 16 gauge 1" tubing would probably weigh about the same and would be much stronger.. It is a little more trouble installing paneling though.
Yeah below the converter is a large vent. I just don't have the grill on it. I put it there for a couple reasons. I supplies the furnace with air and it also vents the converter. It also works great for access to the wiring. Once everything is trimmed out it won't be so easy to just remove a panel so it helps to have access panels here and there.

got a lot of odd and end stuff done.. Not really much to take pictures of. Trailer has running water now! Tested out the monitor panel for the holding tanks. Checked all the plumbing and gas lines for leaks.. Made a holder for my LP bottles. Also finished up the plumbing for dumping the tanks.. Went a head and made a skid for the plumbing just to make sure I don't drag it since we park in fields drive on dirt roads ect.

Guess its about time I posted an update. Been meaning to take some pictures just haven't gotten around to it. Trailer is pretty much done. I've still got a couple pieces of trim to put up and I need to make a spare tire mount, But besides that its good to go. I love it!

Here is a couple pictures showing how I made the hinge for the bed.






My stabilizer jacks take a 3/4 socket so I've been carrying my 18v impact with me cause its easier then cranking down all the jacks.. I figured why not use it for the front jack to.. So I threaded it and put some 3/4 nuts on it. Then welded them in place. I can still use my other jack handle or a ratchet if I want. I'm probably going to weld a 3/4 socket onto the old jack handle and keep in in the trailer just to have a back up.

Inspired a few ideas for my own CTC.

I worked at a foundry in the maintenance department now that I'm retired I miss being able to use the welder, bender, saws ect.

Seeing what you have done and how you did it, the building of your trailer reminds me of what I'm missing.

nice trailer you had a specific need and you have filled the need very well.

I really like welding. I haven't had a welder very long. Now that I'm use to having it I don't think I could go with out it. Seems like I need it all the time. Of course once your friends and family know you have one they tend to need you to weld something for them a lot. :-/

I made a spare tire lock this morning. After looking at that aluminum rim with that radial tire hanging out there in the open right for the taking for anyone with a 4 way. I figured I might want to add some kind of lock.. Here is my spare tire security system (Patent Pending)..... (ok so not really)

Very nice! Sleeps 3+ and has plenty of haul space. You ought to be very proud of your toy hauler.
