Newbie here and getting ready to press my Pace American 6x10 into dual use. I still need to use it as a cargo trailer but want to do some things to make it toy hauler/camping usable. I recently seen a thread with an awning that had PVC frame that was totally detachable for storage, dumb me didn't save it and now I can't find it. So, any awning ideas/designs would be great!

Just get ya one of those 10'x10' pop-up canopies. When folded up doesn't take up much room at all and bigger than an awning!

Here is what we do. Inexpensive and it works for us.

That looks like it would work fairly well. Do you secure the side wall to the trailer to keep out the bugs? If so, how? It's nicely screened in, so I would think you'd want to keep it as secure as possible to keep the pests out!!

I have had one of these canopies collapse in the rain. Because of the way the top connects to the frame the 4 sided canopies tend to have "dips" in the fabric that gather rain, get deeper, gather more rain and eventually....

I would like something more weather tolerant. I was looking at finding/building something that would never want to collect rainwater. Tight stretched fabric (painting canvas-like) or corrugated plastic panels maybe. I have room to carry such a thing and built correctly it would be a snap to set-up.

Hey Bassmatt72,

With search engines you sometimes have to use some 'tricks' to get what you want. At least to narrow your search down.

Try this in the search box:

"awning" and "PVC frame"

The quotations limit the search to that exact phrase. When you use the 'and' operator it connects how ever many phrases you'd like together.

If you remember the forum it was in, such as cargo trailer conversions, then that will help limit the number of returns and focus the search to what you already know or remember.

Hope this helps with your searching.

I'm picking up my awning tomorrow. This is something that works off the sides of the trailer. I could add one to the rear with just enough room above the barn doors.

When the ct was built I had them add a rail to the passenger side of the trailer. They added one to the driver side too! A local guy sewed some awning welt into a nylon tarp I had. He added grommets and 4 small pockets to run diagonal poles.

I'm also picking of 10' of rail from him. This way I can add the rail to the top line of my fence to make it wasier adding the right length and tension of the diagonal pole set up. Now I can have the awning up at home and get more use out of it.

Will let you know how that works out.
