Teardrops n Tiny Travel Trailers

I'm really digging all of the cool work I've seen here. I recently bought a 6X12 and would love to do a full on conversion. But that would not be the best use for the trailer at this time. I'll be using it as a storage garage for motorcycles this winter. And occasional use as a, brace yourselves, moving trailer.

So to the point. Has anybody came up with a way to have a shower, toilet unit that is removable? Something that could be left at home when not needed. Good? Bad? Just plain stupid idea? Suggestions?

Or maybe a better idea would be to sacrifice the area to the front of the side door. Build in a rest room area in that space.

DIY an outdoor shower curtain that hangs from your trailer.. there you go.

Don't get any easier than that. But where is the fun in that.

Is the SEAL SANIPOTTIE 974, a well liked unit? One that you have experience with? Or just a quick suggestion? I obviously know nothing about camping gear, but I have looked around a bit and found many options as far as a portable toilet. Just curious why you suggest that particular one.

My thought was to recess a Big Box Shower Pan down between Trailer Frame Members. Or, modify the Frame a bit as req'd. Make the Shower Pan top level and flush with the CT Floor. Or, keep it simple and set the Pan up on the Floor, un-recessed.

Make an insert of Cabinet-grade Ply that could drop in horizontally to create 'more' smooth Floor in the Pan when not in the Shower. A Porta Potty could sit on that surface, too.

Inside and outside, mount two 45 degree Holders used outside a House to hold small Flags. Or, use some alternate Hardware. For the Shower Curtain Rail, bend Conduit into a 3-sided U shape. Friction fit that Shower Rail, holding the Shower Curtain, into the 2 Flag holders only when Showering. Alternately, make a Shower Rail that hinges down to the CT Wall when not in use. Do the same thing outside the CT, and use an opaque Shower Curtain.

A thin Plastic FRP Panel on the Wall would waterproof this p/t Shower Stall. Hold the Shower Curtain to the Wall with a few Metal Discs sewn-in, and Magnets. Another type of Shower Curtain we have has little Suction Cups integral to it to hold to smooth Tile.

During our new House construction, I lined 3 Shower Walls w/heavy Painter's Plastic. I retained it with top Molding, and just a few Staples around the bottom.

A second opaque Curtain, or even a Pocket Door, could 'wall off' the p/t Bathroom only when in use. At other times, you would gain visual space Psychologically from the 'open', unused Shower area, and thus recycle Bathroom space. How space is always recycled in Japan made an impression on me when I went there on Biz.

I'm curious about the Seal Sanipottie too. I like the idea, but I have to ask, is the seat sized for normal human beings, or for some industry-standard-120lb-theoretical-person? As a man of some size, I must ask before I shell out that much on something like this.

hrm... it's size is no different than the Thetford I had.
btw I'm a mountain man build 285lbs.

A nice idea for a simple shower from someone over on the FiberglassRV forum was:
- take a large plastic washing tub and sit a 12v submersible bilge pump from a boat in it:
- run a hose from the pump up to a shower head;
- set a shower curtain on a circular rail that can be suspended over the tub;
and you've got yourself a portable indoor shower.

Of course some folks would doubtless scream at the idea of just pumping the same water up from the tub and out of the shower head over and over, but it gets around a lot of problems, like needing a large water tank, a big water heater, a waste water tank and all the plumbing to connect them up. By using the same water over and over, you can even heat it up on a campstove first.

I like the idea of a portable shower as well..i think the way im gonna do it is buy a big rubbermaid bin that you can comfortably stand in...then the circular hulahoop or round shower rod with shower curtain attached over the tub with the curtains inside tge tub..im either going to try and cut.a hole in the side of the tub and plumb into an empty aquatainer or the bilge pump idea is even easier, but i would have the bilge pump move the water into an aquatainer..then i would have a coleman on demand water heater with shower attachment,or a similar device,which would take the water from an aquatainer..when the shower needs to get broken down..take the hoolahoop and curtain and put them in plastic tub.. take coleman hot water heater and put in tub..take both aquatainers and put in tub..take tub anywhere..

Instead of a rubbermaid tub..a slop sink or mop sink dould also work...and it also has the option of adding s drain

I've got a buddy that drilled a 2" hole in the floor of is trailer.. He had a plastic or fiberglass shower pan he had bought. When he wanted to take a shower he just dropped the shower pan over the hole with the drain sticking down in the hole. He then had a circle shower curtain he hung from the ceiling. He just had a small tank with 12 sprayer he used to rinse with.. Something like a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and pump mounted to the lid would work fine.. Might be a good idea to get a black bucket so you could set it out in the sun to warm it.. If I wanted something I could easily remove thats how I would do it.. You would also need to run a 12 plug to where every you plan on setting the bucket and pump..
