Colorado 6X12 Haulmark Cargo Trailer

Postby Trainman45 » Sat Nov 05, 2011 2:32 pm

Hi all,

Short story long ......
About a year ago I was watching the Retirement Channel on cable. I was trying to figue out what I was going to do when I retire, so I started checking in on that channel once in a while to get some ideas and tips.

One night they were talking about Fulltime RVing, .... Bingo.!! That was it for me. I was so excited, I started looking at 5th Wheels, Travel Trailers, and Truck Campers on the computer. Then last winter I went to the Big RV Show here in Denver. I could hardly sleep for week before the show, to actually see them and walk inside and check them all out.

I was so disappointed, sad, and crushed walking out of there. My little 1500 Chevy truck could not pull them, and the Truck Campers were too heavy, even the pop up Truck Campers.

I started researching camping on the computer, and found a link to this Forum about Cargo Trailers. I was back to Bingo.!! I can pull a Cargo Trailer. :worship:

I am so excited checking out all the info and builds of all your Cargo Trailers I can hardly sleep anymore.

I went ahead and bought a 6X12 Haulmark Transport Cargo Trailer. I ordered it with 2 windows one on each side, insulated all around, walls, roof, floor and brakes. I also had the 6" added to the 6' height.

Hope I did not lose most of you while I jotted down a few lines here. I am single and talk to myself a lot .... lol. Here are a few pics of my new trailer.

Thanks for all your help and inspiration for making this possible for me. Even though you might not know it, you are helping many, many people that are looking in from the shadows. Thank you. !!

Very nice trailer, Trainman!

This is the first 6x10 Haulmark I have seen in the Cargo Green color and it looks much better then the paint sample in the brochure.

What are your plans for the conversion?

Thank you JuneauDave and BC. !!
Well BC, I am not a handyman. So whatever I see in a store that is already built and will stick to the wall by itself is a go for me ....

Nice trailer. The first thing I'd do is change the latch on the side door or kids will lock you in. Don't forget to start a build thread so we can watch your progress.

Thanks for the tip BDosborn, I am checking in with Gonefishin, looks like he has a simple way to do that side door lock.

Digitek, you will really like your trailer, good choice.!!

Will you be building for just yourself, or are there two of you?

Adding the 6" was a good move. Stooping abit for a weekend or so is okay, but not fulltime.

Hi Judy,
It will be myself and "Grandpa" (my Dad). He is 92 yrs. old and I take care of him. He has alzheimer's and wants to see some sites around the country. I have a 9X12 Kodiak canvas cabin tent with an attached 8X8 screen room we will be using also. The tent is bigger than the trailer. The trailer will be our power station and used for bad weather for now. I will be adding comforts to it as we travel and find out what we really need on the road.

We will really be camping, which is what I am familiar with. I have never had or been in an RV, till I went to the RV show last winter here in Denver. I just paid the last months rent for our lease which ends next month. We will be hitting the road the middle to end of December. It's getting close.!! lol.

Re: Colorado 6X12 Haulmark Cargo Trailer

Hi Gang,
Keeping it simple is the way to go for us. I use Rubbermaid Action Packer's to store anything from clothes to gear. They also serve as the base for our beds. I do not want to have the bed built in yet, as we have used a few different setups. The only thing that is nailed down are the solar panels on the roof and the battery box inside. The battery box also serves as a bed support.

Hey TM:

Love the trailer and truck, and the color too, glad you posted again.

I am doing the same as you, have a blue 5X10 ordered finished like that.

So by your handle, you a retired hogger or a railfan, we railfan, that's why I wanted the trailer to foam in. :pictures:

Cheers:  Jeff
