They make a insulation panel liquid nails that I used... I also screwed a lap board over each two panels at the ceiling joists. Then I covered all that with lexan panels for a ceiling.
works for me.

How are you insulating the tubing 'rafters'?

One suggestion that I got was to use the low pressure spray foam. Drill a hole in one end, or the middle and work both ways. Then, add a long tubing nozzle. Pull the trigger and slide the tubing back out as the 'rafter' fills.

I used a plastic type bathroom product that you can find at a big box lumber store. It was a little pricy at $55 a sheet but I spent the big bucks as my trailer is only 6 ft high inside and I thought this would be easily cleaned from hair oil…(that is If I had any hair left). I also thought I would be real smart and use double sided foam tape to stick it up and provide a thermal barrier to the steal. Then screw it up as well. The white double sided foam tape worked real well for the install, holding it in perfect place while I added a few screws. It also did a fantastic job on the seams that I overlapped. However the plastic panel does not span the 24 inch centers that well and the foam tape makes the panel bulge a bit in the sun as it does not let it move. I would not use it again unless it was on 12 centers, and was allowed to float with holes larger than the screw itself.
I would try some type of thin pre-covered vinyl plywood and if you have room spend the extra buck and strap it on 12 inch centers. I would install the foam board the thickness of the steal rafters, then strap it, then run the foam the other way filling in between the strpping. This could also make it easier to wire lights onto the roof as you can go through the wood strapping with holes if required.

With my walls I insulated between the studs, Re-installed the 3/8" plywood that came on the trailer. Then I installed the was paneling over the plywood.

For the ceiling I took some 1/2 plywood and cut it up into the 3" wide strips. I screwed the strips to the ceiling studs. I insulated the ceiling with one layer of that 1/4" foil bubble wrap stuff followed by one layer of 3/4" foam between the studs. I then put 1/2" foam between the plywood strips. This gave me 3 levels of insulation and a flat surface to mount the ceiling panels to.. For the ceiling panels I just used some 1/4" hardwood underlayment.. Pretty much just looks like luan but only costs 9 bucks a sheet.

Here is a picture of the ceiling you can see the two layers of foam and the plywood strips.

Here is a picture of the wall showing the foil bubble wrap that was used on both the walls and ceiling. I also went over all the seems with some flexible foil tape used on HVAC duct work..

Finished picture with paneling. I clear coated the ceiling. I also used FRP on the bottom 24" of the walls.

Edit,, I posted the wrong picture lol

8ball,
How did you attach the ceiling paneling to the plywood strips?
Did you insulate under the floor? Do you have undercoating?
Where did you get the bubble foil?
Thanks!

I used the paneling bought at lowes it's nice but a little high @ 38.00 a sheet but it looks good.

knowing what I know now and living in a area where it get's really hot in the summer I would add another layer of insulation in the roof like the last post.
it may be the portable AC I had but my trailer never got cool until after dark, and during the day you could really feel the heat coming through the roof when I would stand up.
I hope the Window AC I have now will solve that problem>?

I stapled the ceiling panels to the plywood strips using a pneumatic stapler.

Yes I did insulate under my floor with a single layer of 3/4 Foam. The floor is treated with no undercoating. But I painted the underside of the entire floor with asphalt emulsion. Its a roof sealant that a lot of people use on the underside of their teardrop trailers..

I purchased the bubble foil at either lowes or Home depot. One was cheaper then the other so check both if you can. The asphalt emulsion was Henry brand and it came from Home depot I believe. The pink 3/4 foam came for Home depot, but the blue came from Lowes..

FWIW I also painted the metal on the roof with white roof paint. Its made to reflect the suns heat and boasted something like a 85% reduction. I left a small section unpainted just for a test and even on a partly cloudy day the silver part was to hot to keep your hand on while the white painted part wasn't even warm. I'm very happy with the trailer. With roof vents open I can park the trailer out in full sun and walking from outside under the awning the inside feels exactly the same. Even after the door as been closed for hours. Inside being the same temp as outside in the shade is about as good as you can expect.

The only reason why I insulated the floor was we camped in the trailer last year before the trailer was done. It was pretty cold at night and the floor was ICE cold. We had just an airmatress on the floor and I noticed most of the outside noise you heard was from the floor also.. It seems to have helped the cold feel of the floor. Not sure about the noise since I haven't slept on the floor since, I figure it couldn't have hurt.

8ball,

Do you have more pics or a link to your build thread for the pics above? I'd be interested to see more pics and more info on this build. What size is the CT and what is the inside height?

Thanks,

Dave

Sure, Here you go Build thread Not a very long thread since I didn't post many questions. I also didn't take to long to build it. I had it done with in about 3months of buying the trailer. But it has a pretty good run of pictures and information. Trailer is a 7x24 plus 2' V-nose.. Inside height is 6'6"
