Gadget Mans Adventure Trailer = Weight.

I thought I would post this separate from my other post, I'm sure others will be interested....

I hooked up to my trailer on Saturday and drove out to a certified truck scale.
I weighted my tow vehicle and the trailer together, then drove off, unhooked the trailer and weighed the tow vehicle alone.
When I subtracted the two, the trailer weighed 3860 pounds. :o
This means if I go by the 10% - 13% of total weight to be tongue weight, I need about 425 pounds of tongue weight. I don't have a scale to measure that high, so I'm not sure where I am with that.

That's with a lot of gear already inside but nothing in the cooler or refrigerator, if you look through my pictures you can sort of see how much stuff I already have inside. I think another 200 pounds of gear and food could be expected for a normal camp out.

Now... This is before I load in the motorcycle.
The Road Star road bike weighs over 800 pounds. The BMW dual sport bike weighs about 450, (I think)
I will be able to adjust the tongue weight by adjusting how far forward or back I tie it down inside. I think total trailer weight with motorcycle and gear could top
4700 pounds fully loaded.

Find a strong board. Put one end on a 300# bathroom scale. Put the other end on a brick.
Jack up the tongue of the trailer on the middle of the board.

The scale will only show half the weight of the tongue.

An old pilot told me that is how he weighed his airplane.

Here's a link to explain the bathroom scale method.
